(11/11) In this new normal, costs are individually adjusted to a consumer’s maximum threshold and wages to a worker’s minimum floor.
The next time you see a price, know that it may not reflect what the item is worth—but what the algorithm believes *you* are worth.

A friend of mine said when her grandmother landed in the US from Poland she knew everything would be okay "because everyone had shoes." I've read enough--firsthand accounts as well as history-- to understand the dire poverty in tenements, sharecroppers' homes, among the European peasantry.

Miss America, Miss Universe. Isn't that a bit like Michael Vick owning a series of pet stores? It's a f-cking catch and release program for him.

The list literally goes on and on. This shit is eventually going to break something. It could even break everything.
Bot swarms, multibillion dollar companies telling us to eat rocks, web pages built with LLMs that can’t even manage to copy and paste correct information…

But yeah, I just have uninformed ‘priors…’

My opinion on AI isn’t based on priors, it’s based on observation and experience. It’s been generally awful for anything that isn’t explicitly a technology or scientific endeavor. It creates just generally bad experiences.
Exactly correct, people need to update their priors.
I still think the internet is the best comp for AI. It was a bubble that popped, but the underlying tech turned out to be real. It enabled a bunch of psychosis and slop, but also some genuinely cool stuff. Massive labor market disruptions, but employment levels look about the same.

If someone with a notorious Nazi tattoo claimed to have converted and was running as a centrist Dem the ‘left’ would not be having it. We are deep in bias confirmation everywhere we look.

honestly, on policy Mills is pretty clearly just going to vote for the party line across the board while Platner is obviously going to be a massive wild card on most issues, it's not complicated

LLMs operate from a fundamentally flawed assumption. Language is meant to communicate a meaning, it isn’t a hard set of physical elements that merely need to be arraigned in the correct proportions to produce a reaction.
the more I see about LLM advances the less worried I become about the technology and the more worried I become about the entities that use it

Are you in your position because you’re good with people? Now you’re managing multiple computer systems instead.
I feel like we’ve lost sight of tech as being a product meant to enhance experience to tech being little more than an obsession. Find a way to do it with tech because it will be better isn’t some kind of scientific principle.

The concentration of AI wealth into the hands of a few tech barons + plutocratic capture ==> unchartered territory

Ask yourself: why would this administration want to delete references to Medgar Evers’ racist assassin being a racist? Why might that be?

I challenge anyone in this administration or Congress to defend this.
Medgar Evers’ killer was a Klansman, but Trump administration says stop calling him a racist - Mississippi Today
Among anticipated changes to a new visitor brochure for the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Home National Monument is no longer using "racist" to describe the killer of the civil rights leader.

I’m in retail. It’s mostly LLMs that are complete trash. Outsourcing customer service to online portals the customer does themselves. I had direct hands on control of this, now it’s, ‘wait five more minutes maybe it will go through.’ Then there’s the scheduling, we aren’t fucking widgets.
I'll bite. How is AI actually being used such that it's adding exponential layers of complexity ?

In my working world it's being used to automate operational processes. You can a) measure the output and b) measure the time savings

No exponentials have been introduced
