I had a fairly moderate opinion on Train Dreams upon seeing it, but I've thought about it more often than other 2025 films I technically liked better.

Picked up The Crown again after losing interest in it briefly. Two underrated performances in it I'd like to give a random shout out to: Chloe Pirrie and Pip Torrens.

“Four of my children just evaporated,” Badran said, holding back tears. “I looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?”

There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.

U.K. might lose a prime minister because a guy who worked for him knew another guy who hung out with Epstein. Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

There have been two films from 2025 that feature a scene of a handcuffed woman fishing keys out of a dead man's pocket to free herself, and two others that begin with a number from the musical Oklahoma.

This was basically the Howard Jacobson interview.
We all love Chotiner making his clever little remarks but he has been on a run of feeling so (correctly) disdainful of his subjects that it’s bordering on him going

Chotiner: so you’re just a big piece of shit aren’t ya?

Doug Warcrime: I guess so

Chotiner: seems that way

Enjoyed the Chotiner-Spinotti interview like everyone else but how amusing/infuriating it is says more about the latter than the former. Spinotti seems so clueless any competent interviewer could show everyone what a fool he is by asking very simple questions about the documentary.

Finally revisited One Battle After Another the other night and liked it far better. The funny thing is, though, that my problems with it didn't completely abate so much as that I was just more accepting of them this time. Found myself more able to settle into its mood and rhythms.

What's with the weird cell phone store subplot in No Other Choice? I liked the movie overall, but that's an entire section of the film that goes on too long for something that ultimately leads nowhere. I'm surprised to not see more reviews criticizing it.
