Spent a fascinating morning reading about the Canaanite pantheon and its influence on the Old Testament. Had no idea that the Lucifer may have started off as a Canaanite astral deity, 'Shining One, Son of Dawn'; or that Beelzebub 'The Lord of the Flies' was a Philistine god and a form of Baal.

Tonight Bjúgnakrækir (Sausage Swiper), the 9th of Iceland's 13 Yule Lads, comes down from the mountains. He hides in the rafters and steals sausages that are hung up there for smoking.

Children leave their shoes out in the window, he gives the good ones a small gift, the bad ones get a potato.

I produced many paintings and drawings of Portsmouth and Southsea but I won't put loads of them on here all at once. Here's a watercolour that was done on a little beach at Sally Port, Old Portsmouth and you can see the masts of the Warrior in the distance

'Farm on a Hillside,' (1914) is a superb piece of pictorial design by John Nash. He typically used trees to articulate space and unify a painting in an overall pattern; the clarity of drawing and controlled use of colour add to this painting's appeal.

#OTD 1783, William Pitt became the youngest ever holder of the office of Prime Minister.

However, his government became nicknamed the 'Mince Pie Administration', referencing its anticipated fall from power as soon as Christmas was over. Was this a fair prohecy?
The Mince Pie Administration or Plum Pudding Billy - The History of Parliament
Every December mince pies fly off the shelf, but our love for them never seems to last past Christmas. In 1783, William Pitt's government was disparagingly
