Cover reveal! 💥
My next book, Inside Outside, is a deep dive into the making of David Bowie’s 1.Outside; an album that still fascinates and inspires 30 years on.

Too often overlooked and misunderstood, it remains Bowie's most artistically fearless work.

Out this spring.

Absolutely delighted to see First Light reviewed in the latest issue of Odyssey, the magazine for members of the British Interplanetary Society - I couldn't ask to reach a more perfect audience!

Very sorry to hear about Lorne Martin's passing. John Collier was regularly in contact with him when we produced our original ebooks on the classic Doctor Who exhibitions. It was a pleasure and an honour to have our work met with his approval really meant a lot.

New cover commission for @simonkewin.co.uk is going well - my first illustration with a new Intuos Pro tablet (having realised my trusty 15-year-old Intuos 4 wasn't compatible with the latest Mac OS!). Looking forward to sharing the results soon...

Got my first cover art concepts for The Twisted Road from @thelightdreams.bsky.social. Really wonderful. I felt quite emotional seeing this book and setting that's been in my head all this time rendered as an actual book cover in the real world.

Coming this spring, INSIDE OUTSIDE, a deep dive into David Bowie’s 1995 dark concept album, 1.Outside. The book explores the album, its origins, the 'Leon' recordings, the subsequent tour and more, in what remains one of Bowie’s most creatively fertile periods. This project is a real labour of love!

Between 2020-2022 I alternated releases between dark, heavy thematic albums with red & black cover art, and lighter, more contemplative albums with black & white cover art. These four are some of my best work. I was considering continuing the red/white theme indefinitely (I didn't, and wish I had!).

My instrumental album Málverk was released on digital formats and CD. The album combines my fascination with Iceland and love of 1970s/80s science fiction art.

Self-published in May, Blackpool Remembered is a vibrant illustrated history of the classic Doctor Who exhibition – a real labour of love for me and John Collier. Bringing together a definite paperback version of our 2020 ebook was really rewarding!

March saw the publication of my book Evolution of the Toy Dalek. A history of Dalek toys from the 60s to present was a joy to write and design, and a long-time ambition. Being published by Telos was the cherry on the cake! Really proud of this book.

Work on the Bowie book is going really well. The bulk of the content is drafted, but I'm still hoping for a couple more contributions. Diving deeper into 1.Outside even after 30 years, has been so enjoyable. Cover reveal coming soon!

"His locales are often vast in scope, bringing to mind the viewers landscape-position of John Martin, where humans form just a small part of a world building scene."

- this really is a greater compliment than I could have hoped for!

Awakening (2011) is one of my earlier digital paintings but the one which really kickstarted things, when it was chosen for inclusion in Brave New Worlds: Utopias/Dystopias in London that same year.

This piece and many more are included in my new retrospective book, First Light.

The works in First Light unfold across a series of thematic realms: cities, stars, worlds, environments, and book covers. Richard Hayes’ commentary invites the reader further in, enriching each piece with an added sense of adventure.
