This is why some places won’t do any reprographics free. My personal view is that if you have to get original documents out to answer a query, it should be a charged service. The researcher has (usually) the option to come & look at it themselves if they don’t want to pay for a proper copy.

... and then the whole package went to a specialist reprographics house (somewhere Holborn-ish IIRC) where they had drum scanners and other such magical devices! After about a week you got back "wet proofs" of the colour plates and a huge (for the time!) digital file... (okay, 2/3)

I can hear all the horse photographers I ever talked to in my time working in reprographics and feel the sheer anger at something like this because it was too beautiful, more beautiful than their horse and it had to be destroyed to make sure their horse continued to be the beautifuliest.

I know it’s a separate argument but teachers really shouldn’t be doing printing either. There should be someone in reprographics who sorts this.
The only time I photocopy is when I’ve not been organised enough to ask reprographics to sort it (quite often tbf)

Yes to all 3. A photocopier such a big step even if access was limited at first to reprographics staff & deputy heads. VCR - I kept tapes for years in case i'd use them. My first books were written on a typewriter so word processing was a wonder and a big saving on snopake!

Personal news: After quite a long time (7 months after the Ricoh machines were removed from the UIS printroom) it’s finally been agreed that I’m being seconded to the reprographics unit in the Old Schools.

Today I will drop off roughly 50 drawings to Reprographics to have them scanned for .png files. I have a scanner but it is small and I'm not sure of the end quality. This isn't expensive, they should be done by Monday next. #illustration #art #scans
