I was saddened today to learn that the brilliant Catherine O’Hara has passed away. She brought joy to many a life through her film and TV work.

Yet another story that if you told it to someone, they would go, “No way that’s true!” Apparently, dude is a paratrooper, which explains a lot. (If you’re airborne, no offence intended, unless you like to get drunk and pass out in somebody else’s flat.)

When I was a boy, my dad would send me to the liquor store across the street with a couple of dollars to buy a pint of whiskey for him.
Non-Smoking was just a different row from Smoking. The only place people COULDN'T smoke was on the short walk from the plane to the terminal.

I just procured this beautiful #GreatWar prismatic compass w/case. This was a type used among others by British Army officers. I own several of these compasses, and the is by far the most pristine of them. Incredibly, the arrow still points north after 110 years!

HistoryinYourHand on YouTube has just dropped a superb video about brothers who died in the same campaign on the Somme. Included is a vignette about Edward Dwyer VC including a voice recording of him from the #GreatWar. Tragically, he was killed in action on the #Somme. Highly recommended!

8 January 1916 2nd Lt Ivar Campbell of 3 Bn Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and a forgotten War Poet was killed in battle and is buried at the Basra Memorial. Ivar is also remembered on the Inveraray War Memorial.
