4. Take care of yourself first.

If you need to take a lib staff/parapro job while you search for a librarian role, go for it. If you can get paid better elsewhere, do that instead and sell the transferable skills.

Lib staff experience can hurt as well as help, depending on the hiring committee.

Hey friends! I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in art comms in trade (essentially) for things on my Amazon classroom wishlist?
I'm a parapro, but I teach two kids, and I want to decorate their space and get them things like microscopes and other tools.

I am the highest paid person in my department. I make 40% more money than the lowest paid person in my department, who is a parapro. My job is probably 40% more annoying than his is and I have 15 years more experience. This seems appropriate! Thank you, union!

it was hard to get enough hours as a parapro/assistant/etc. but yeah, you can work in a library without being A Librarian

Honestly over winter break I might take the parapro assessment. Working as a para ed would give me experience in a classroom anyways.

Aw… thanks! He’s 72 and retired now but He taught school for almost 40 years. He retired as a special teacher and and then went to work privately to provide behavior support services for individuals with disabilities. I was a special Ed. Parapro. And hug your sweet boy for us.

I read a ton as a kid and eventually found reliable sources, went to a great university and studied a ton of history, couldn’t get a job in the ‘08 recession except as a parapro for a 2nd grade class whose teacher said Columbus proved the earth was round and the look I gave her almost got me fired

Oh, this retired special Ed parapro will be giving Miss Lindsey, et al. a piece of my mind tomorrow.

PSA FROM TEACHERS TO PARENTS BUT THE “unions” won't let us voice out, loud and the media refuses to reinforce, so as a parapro in the high schools and in a “grey” area, he goes nothing.

DEAR CONSERVATIVE BRAIN-DEAD FAUX NEWS PARENTS, we don't want to brainwash your drooling walking nightmare of

I think she’s a parapro now. Not 100% sure though.

That classroom only had four teachers and it clearly needed a 1:1 parapro!

I worked as a high special needs parapro. The school had a special needs classroom as a base & we had students in regular education as much as possible. I often heard people say how sweet and charming people with Downs syndrome are-but they never saw the times they would

As a former special ed parapro who worked extensively with children with autism and has seen the anguish and stress that their parents deal with including failure of marriages and even attempted suicides I am begging you to delete this post.

My archives masters wasn't an accredited LIS because it was an archives-specific program. Got a CA after graduating and made the jump from parapro work for pretty cheap. The only accredited ALA degree anywhere near me had nothing on archives. Didn't make sense to go there.

And if 1 is this awful, they should lose their jobs. All of that $$$ should go to the janitorial staff, educators/parapro teachers, the social workers, etc. It can go towards the new stadium that they supposedly MUST have, instead of most taxpayers paying for it.

I was working as a parapro in a special education class & at age 30 decided to finish my bachelor’s degree & go to grad school full time to become a school psychologist. Worked 3 part time jobs to support myself & took 5 years to finish the bachelors & grad school.

With schools specifically I never seen anyone discuss what it would have done to staff headcount, though. My mom accelerated her retirement as a parapro; there were teachers she worked with who would have done the same if they'd been forced back into the classroom earlier.

At my ripe old age of 69+ I have my childhood, the time I had a child in school (graduated in 2000), grandmother of 2 near adults plus a special needs parapro, I have watched a brewing. From my youth my parents & most others, hoped my life would be better than theirs.

After two years, my job has been officially recognized my position as a special education resource parapro. I will be mostly with kids in resource which is a first.

I’m sure he was just an Educational Aide because you don’t really need experience to become one, just 2 years of college credits or to take a ParaPro exam.

So, granddaughter of principal is now bumped up to assistant instructor (in a room NO ONE wants to work in) and they have hired 3 new, rehired 1 parapro... no idea if any of this means that they are going to reconfigure some of the others (me) or not.
