Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I thought this might happen, but dared not utter it.
1/ Eleven Dutch parties across the political spectrum from socialist to conservative have issued a joint appeal to a provincial government to build a memorial to Black American soldiers who died in World War II, to replace one removed from the Netherlands American Cemetery. ⬇️

Yes it's quite the turn.
The idea of 99% vs 1% is entirely new.
I am an adult columnist for a nationally read newspaper.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

In light of the Mamdani win, and the various racist smears, I'd been mulling over how bigotry is so easily disguised under the rubric of "propriety."

I might be convinced that these appeals are sometimes sincere, but even *in* sincerity they can be simple reification.
Kudos to the @seattletimes.com for spelling with diacritical marks used in the Hawaiian language, the ʻokina and the kahakō.

A few years ago, when I asked the NY Times to spell my affiliation as University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, they refused because it went against their style guide.
Why we're using this spelling of Hawaiʻi
You may notice a change in how we spell Hawaiʻi and other Native Hawaiian words at The Seattle Times. Here's why.

This has been shown to me IRL as real by a 1/2 dozen people.
Times are weird.
I’m still waiting.

This is truly absurd.
My mind reels at what work could even possibly merit such compensation.
Developing a cancer cure? Even that seems odd.
This type of number is just (to my mind) divorced from reality.
Elon Musk’s new pay package would feed all forty million Americans on SNAP for the next ten years. He wouldn’t notice the difference but the country would.

Thinking about how using consumer facing AI tools break longstanding computing aphorisms like DRY, or the robustness principle.

Working with AI tools is an endless process of restate, rephrase, refactor.

They're certainly liberal in what they accept, but they're mindless when it comes to output.

This is why law is bad, this is why law is good.
Judge will tell the jury, “The phrase ‘bodily harm’ as used in this sentence…carries the same meaning as injury in the next sentence.” The sentence at issue is the one defining “assault.”

I'm excited and happy about yesterday's blanket repudiation of GOP governance but also let's keep in mind that the entire Democratic power structure got behind Andrew Cuomo and pushed to try and stop Zohran- let's celebrate the Ws but also don't get it twisted
