JOHN LENNON & his Aunt Mimi outside ‘Mendips’ - his home from 1945 to 1963 - and John’s bedroom there.

The National Trust will leave the light on in John’s bedroom overnight tonight.

He was taken from us 45yrs ago today, aged just 40.

Always missed. Never forgotten.

Oh, how I ache!! 9 muddy miles in the Mendips (again) at dusk, complete with ankle deep mega-puddles and extremely eerie fog. Glad I had @olivertlord.bsky.social nattering at me through the darkness (until he started talking about horror films... 😱) #trailrunning #trailrunningisthebest

Copper alloy figurine of Capricorn, found in 2012 by a metal detectorist in the Mendips. The goat/fish collision was the emblem of Legio II Augusta which had its fortress first at Exeter and then Caerleon across the Severn. Now in @museumofsomerset.bsky.social.

Solidarity from the other side of the Mendips on the ‘Glasto’ obscenity. It’s nearer Mallet anyway. I hope Rex’s boat sinks. #TheArchers

The Englishman is reffing at the wrestling in Frome today, so we're stopping by Nunney Castle on the way. Absolutely loving the autumn colours as we drive across the Mendips. This really is the most beautiful country on earth and I'm incredibly grateful to be here.

It was a nice crisp sunny day in Wembley. A few Technical issues with the testing going on at the time, so camera out. 59002 headed back towards the Mendips.

In today's @theguardian.com country diary, @derekniemann.bsky.social listens for 'birds of the mountainous north and west, hatched in ice, feathers stiffened with granite' over the 'soft tops of the Mendips'.

Grey and damp again today. Wonder if it’s like this outside of the Mendips too.

Are we having anticyclonic gloom again, or are the Mendips just having a long patch of mist?

Interesting article! Thank you! It's got some very good points .. I have been to every house featured (well I've stood outside) and actually been inside Paul's Forthlin Road house .. have yet to go inside John's Mendips house and it's interesting the differences between all their houses!

As far as i know, this looks to be the most informative paper on Silurian volcanics of eastern mendips, its from 1982. Anyone have a better more up to date source? www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

When I did that it took 2 hours from my desk in Bristol to my tent. Mind you, cycling over the Mendips isn't the best preparation for 5 days without a shower

Satisfying hour of pottering in the kitchen. A jar of kimchee starting its ferment. Spiced Quince & Pear Jelly from Mendips garden (John Lennon childhood home).

Heading towards the Mendips. Luckily we don’t have to go over them - we’re taking the Strawberry Line, the railway that used to run between Cheddar and Yatton.
