A big fallow buck came trotting this way last night. Head held high & slightly back, to bear the weight of his Herne-like antlers. Further on, a whole herd had moved this way, trotting through the snowdrops & past the old well & pumphouse of the abandoned Fairy House.

Went to see Joseph Edward Little this afternoon - a Hitchin botanist from the 1890s to 1930s. I told him it wouldn't be long until the Good Friday Grass and Meadow Saxifrage would be flowering on his grave. He already had a Brown-lipped Snail visitor.
