Deep in an 19th century yarn company knitting book, and the level of detail in the illustrations is amazing. Book is The Butterick Art of Knitting (1892) #oldbooks #knitting #knittinghistory 🧶

Even the outfits kind of look like the sort of stuff that I would’ve worn when I was a kid. People are saying they look like Victorian children, but I think that’s more a beginner-level 1980s Butterick pattern….

@gruber.foo ¥Butterick The nice part of you linking to that MB post is that it either introduced me or reacquainted me with Heliotrope, which has all the best attributes of several of my favorite faces, including Albertus, but with the utility of working as body type.

- Simplicity pattern 1731, a fun long skirt.
- Simplicity pattern 6374, it's just a suit with a vest.
-Butterick pattern 3998, a good coat.
- Butterick pattern 9637, a men's robe.
- Vouge pattern 2001, it's got a blouse option I want to alter.

A search for "twist front" on Etsy brings up shirts with this front but only for women (and mostly crop tops).

I tried the Simplicity/Butterick/McCall's/Vogue website and couldn't find any, either.

Some vulture capitol firm just bought up the four main pattern companies -- Butterick, Vogue, Simplicity and McCalls -- and they're going to stop making patterns. They sold them off for parts. I've bought a couple of patterns but I suspect I'll have to learn pattern making for most things. Thank you

Collars are so hard, fuck!!!

Stopping here since this draft is too small for me. Like I can get it on but there's not much room to move. Person who came here from the sewing hashtag and said that if butterick says I'm a 22 than I'm actually an 18 was right. (This is a 16.)

It's why I converted my back-zip jumpsuit pattern into pants and top (both with side zippers). Will post the 2nd making of it soon. Butterick 6130 #garmentsewing

A lot of the big 4 patterns (butterick, McCall's, etc) have insane amounts of ease. So if you're using one of them, you may want to start with the 18 if the finished measurements are closer to your actual measurements.

I finished sewing the second test collar (Butterick 3421 adapted for a front closure) yesterday and it looks great! I think we have our winner. This one is the perfect size but a little more complicated to make because it's split at the centre front AND centre back. #garmentsewing
