Being in Chicago is awesome for a lot of reasons, and the breadth of local independent media (Chicago Public Media, which is WBEZ + SunTimes, BlockClub, CityCast Chicago, Unravelled, TheTriibe, The Reader, etc) is fantastic.

Beyond Chicago, see also ProPublica, 404, Truthout, Grist, Ground.

Why don’t you report the Illinois State Police when they do bad things? From a BlockClub article I saw earlier today, there have only been two complaints through October 23, one of which was withdrawn.

Speaking from experience, Anish Kapoor can turn down any artwork proposed for the park that would reflect on Cloud Gate. Also per the Blockclub article, he can also ::sue:: "anyone who uses his artwork in a way he doesn't like". Something tells me he's not going to like this.

Feds dragged a woman out of a daycare in Roscoe Village today, Addison/Rockwell. After getting her they went inside to ask after immigration status of other workers. Video here, in the story from BlockClub.

Happy patriots at Chicago’s NO KINGS march on Oct 18, 2025. We were leaving the park for the streets after a defiant and unifying speech by Governor Pritzker. The crowd ROARED in response to him. 250,000 strong according to BlockClub Chicago (pls consider donating for their pro-democracy reporting).

2. “The Chicago River does not touch any foreign borders.”

It does not! However, Blockclub Chicago should look into the 100 Border Zone situation. It lets CBP operate with impunity within it. For some reason, the Chicago coastline is considered a part of that.

I have sent the following message to @mollydevore.bsky.social (and I would send it to editor @smontemayor.bsky.social if his DMs were open) of @blockclubchi.bsky.social regarding the lies they're publishing on behalf of tyrants. I sincerely hope they'll correct this ASAP.

Honestly, I'm disappointed in blockclub. This article only lends credence to the phony pretext. Trump isn't fighting crime. He's fighting cities and stares that don't like him.

In Chicago, they did this by starting up BlockClub Chicago, a news site covering local news, as a non-profit. They are thriving.

it’s maddening to read these BlockClub articles where they pretend that it’s a both side issue and a compromise was made when in truth it’s capitulation to the drivers all the damn time

that area is overrun with cars and needs better dedicated transit/bike/pedestrian infrastructure
