I haven’t been creatively motivated / driven in some time, but one of my favorite things to do is take a selfie at every AMC movie I go to. I titled the series after a line in the Nicole Kidman pledge of allegiance, “because here, they are”. It’s my very own On Kawara-like practice.
The new Joyce Manor album is a very bright spot in a pretty bleak landscape. Give yourself a 19-minute break from the chaos.

The benefit of being a physical media junkie and using no streaming service for music when the Internet is out due to an ice storm is I don't lose access to music. If power goes out, I switch to my backup battery powered mp3 drives!

Slowed down this morning to make a slightly more complex version of classic oatmeal. The added time it takes to brown the butter and soften the dates makes it all the better. Highly recommend topping with whatever fruit you have in the house.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

We need a new word to describe movies like “Marty Supreme” and “Anora” and “Uncut Gems”. They’re not thrillers, they’re not comedies, they’re stressful and insane and weird and it’s such a ride to watch them. I need a shower after watching “Marty Supreme”.

I was telling one of my kids that it was physically impossible for an ad to play between songs on any of the records I own, and they asked "and you only have to pay for it once?" and you could see how strange that seemed. You cannot overstate how many basic rules of media consumption have changed.

Our gas and electric bills were wildly high this last month (never seen them hit these numbers) so we are lowering the thermostat and wearing layers inside from here on out.

Deleting / unsubscribing from all streaming services this morning has me feeling FREE. We have a VHS collection and DVDs of my favorite movies and shows at home. If not, I can go to the library. Will I miss the next season of "Severance"? Maybe. But it's not coming out for three more years anyway.
