a lot of people know they need to stretch food and simultaneously cannot stock up

we can be more than in solidarity, we can share resources with each other

people take care of each other, consider buying shelf staples for others if you cannot immediately think of someone to share food with
there is not a small number of people who can no longer go to the grocery store or the food pantry, there are many who are taking risks

we have a small wishlist and i will keep sharing it, we keep hearing from families who trust us or trust their networks to trust us

Being of a certain age, seeing the potential and hopes of what should have been the Second Reconstruction being crushed in my lifetime has been soul rendering.

But also seeing communities working to fight the onslaught of disenfranchisement, occupation and extraction still gives me hope.

and i am still extremely unclear if there is a local school council at York High School, the school inside Cook County Jail

there is a local school council at Jefferson High School, the school inside the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center

i can't find the voting area for that LSC
and local school council election boundaries do not need to adhere to any Voting Rights Act rules because they aren't real elections, nothing is balanced

the elections are administered by CPS, designed by a consultant who lives in Winnetka

and if conflict arises, CPS legal oversees

i've never voted in all of the LSC elections for all of the schools i am allowed to vote in because it would take me all day

i'd be going from northside learning center at 5600n to South Loop at 1200s and 6 schools in between

maybe this is the year i try it and see what happens
this is the map for the 2026 LSC elections, cps just hasn't updated the coding to name the website

i told a friend that i could serve on 8 LSCs and his response

"that's ridiculous"
that's a whole other conversation in which then I'd talk about the one time an LSC sued CPS and correctly lost its lawsuit while trying to do racism

elections are upcoming and you can vote in a million elections if you want to, take a look

i can vote (and serve) on 8 local school councils

chicago public schools has a demographer

her name is Iliana Vargas and she is in charge of making student enrollment projections, writing and using the space utilization formula

her department will be important in any school closure conversations, co-locations at cps

she has a weekly meeting

working on a project, screen printing

how much of the original does an artist need to reference, how much can be set aside or discarded even, how much can be extended to keep a lineage and archive

i'm having a lot of fun with the language in art this morning

i'm measuring something out and what does it mean that i use the imperial system, reliant on a government exchequer accounting system guided by weights and measure acts defined by colonial extraction
one thing i really love about art classes is that in almost every discipline there is a discussion of tension and what materials need to be in tension with each other

that's before we even get to the subject or design of the art

also in jewelry making you put everything in a pickle! 🥒
it's fun trying new art classes with friends

there were a whole new set of tools to try (and break) and get used to and i love it

way more CPS officials troll twitter than they do bluesky but i'll say it here too

chip johnson should never have been hired back to chicago public schools, it will backfire, i promise

sometimes you go to an archive and become totally engrossed in a proposal called Interaction Effects of Wind on High-Rise Buildings in Urban Areas, 1975

thank you everyone for making a fuss, chicago public schools sent downtown employees to watch the principal

putting a written limit on protest activity is chilling and the students are still out protesting

this principal has no business being around students
a chicago public schools principal is limiting student protest by telling students they can't do a walkout lasting longer than 30 minutes

"As a reminder, student walkouts should not exceed 30 minutes per CPS guidelines."

when i study FOIA logs, i notice that sometimes privacy groups file FOIAs that will predictably lead to a sharpening of the State and a decrease in safety for the person who holds the risk

it's not to celebrate that your FOIAs led to Flock being as vague as possible about use, kids feel that harm
February 12, 2026 at 6:54 PM
this translates to showing up, sharing skills, research as mutual aid with the main concern a relationship with people in my community *not* having a relationship to transparency and FOIA officers who are agents of the State
sometimes, filing FOIAs is for making someone feel safe, a show of solidarity and love

it's upsetting to me that people are mad about ring cameras and their search party ad during ICE immigration ads

while i sit and do some research about CTA cameras, there is not the same outcry about the surveillance state in transit, even from transit activists

i wonder why that is*
February 12, 2026 at 3:14 PM
in case anyone would like to call this principal and ask him why he is limiting student protest and why he trashed signs made by students

the phone number for Principal Roberts is 773-534-3505, that's his direct line

Now imagine what cops do in Black and brown and indigenous communities when they DO fight big oil

When they DO do anarchism

I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

i had a really great chat with a local reporter this week about chicago public schools

i joked with her that i could go on the record for her but there's no guarantee i'm not giving a quote from a similar story that ran 40 years prior

she laughed and then realized, the conversation is stuck

schools are also a place to see how the city and chicago public schools enact anti-Black policy through policing of leisure spaces

the curfew signs are extremely common at CPS high schools but often posted on the walls closest to the basketball courts
