this is where @abundanthousingil.bsky.social steps in with a just on time petition to protect Alderman Villegas's cover for saying no to more housing

relying on thinly veiled ideas about who is [not] allowed to be in chicago

this is how City Council does the art of weaving cover to do very little

the art of making cover

this neighbor emails Alderman Villegas's office with words like "the whole neighborhood is against the rezoning"

and does the very chicago thing, dropping i gotta guy

"i put in a call to Kyle Bartlett (the assistant zoning administrator) to get a better understand..."
November 18, 2025 at 2:45 AM
"I respectfully urge Alderman Villegas to oppose the rezoning request to B2-3"

is very specific language for a person to use when emailing a member of City Council

Alderman Villegas does not need to issue street parking permits to anyone and this person has a parking space deeded with her condo

"Super job getting a development here in the first place!"

Alderman Villegas did less than nothing to get a development on the parcel at Chicago and Washtenaw. The property was for sale by its owner and the developer bought it.

The City was not involved in any way except to downsize the project.

"partially blocked from view by a 4-story development" and "request that this development AND OTHERS in the future be limited to a 4 story project"

not only is the current feedback about this development but all others like it in perpetuity, it's a slippery slope to building housing, i guess
November 18, 2025 at 1:50 AM
"So if 5 stories goes up here, will someone propose a 6 story a few blocks away..."

we will eventually force Oak Park to build high rises so they can see over all the 5 story buildings in Chicago

we should not have housing because that might mean more housing, escalating housing
November 18, 2025 at 1:50 AM
let's dissect some of the critique that comes into an Alderman's office about proposed housing developments

the art of making cover

City Council members often tell constituents to "join in the process" by "making your voice heard" and encourage feedback even though City Council holds formal power

someone who is better at mapping than i can figure this out but even i know 250 feet away from something is a really short distance, it's not even a standard size city block

i used google maps to visualize what 250 feet away from 2652 chicago avenue would be and it was really small
November 17, 2025 at 4:30 PM
people wanted to know how Alderman Villegas publicized the community meeting about developing 2652 Washtenaw into housing on a transit corridor

"Please send me a draft community meeting notice that will be mailed out to property owners within the 250 foot distance from the subject property."

the 36th ward has ~53,500 people in it and a meeting in early August 2025 drew very few people

of the *36* people who registered feedback, 29 were opposed and 7 for it

the alderman used the feedback from 36 people to tell the developer to revise down housing in the city of chicago

the policy includes how an infiltrator is approved by the department, how long an infiltrator or undercover methods can be used against us and how it can be extended

there are a lot of unvetted chats out there, be safe
November 11, 2025 at 3:13 AM
this is not new information but it's worth stating plainly

the chicago police department has a process for starting investigations related to the first amendment and this process includes the use of infiltrators

one of their steps includes filling out a "first amendment worksheet"

this was so bad, as a concept, in practice and as art

we've picked up a few more regular asks for food in the last few weeks as border patrol uses teargas in the city

we could really use rice, beans, salt and cooking oil

cinnamon and cardamom help with morale, coffee helps someone stay awake

the land use maps are really a series of art, every engineer or architect that i become fascinated with has an incredible sense of their place in time and space

architects, engineers, traffic nerds, and those of us who live along the chicago avenue corridor have dreamed about its use forever

i grew up showing up along the chicago avenue corridor when my dad worked at montgomery ward

mr brubaker dreamed of a tree lined chicago avenue, mapping a new subway
November 9, 2025 at 10:31 PM
he thought of development in varying ways from a small 5,000 quarter-mile block of people to the entire city

in one design, a school and park were included, libraries and other city services excluded

cars required attention, school planners are always worried about how to keep cars away from kids
