there is a publishing house that functions as the mouthpiece for the ISO {defunct-ish} and it often really discounts its books to move its language around leftist circles

but how things are categorized matters and Disability is not a category for their books

it is always valid to name our material conditions

a zine that was published over a decade ago that is still relevant to naming the materiality of why it matters to contextualize misogyny and social control that predictably appears in leftist spaces

why misogynists make great informants

it's really impressive that the technology industry has made it seem as though safety lies in the adherence to strict technical standards

safety is in the relational and anyone who tells you different is a charlatan
security isn't a technical problem, it's a social one

who is erased when we speak only of transparency and accountability
as @saranahmed.bsky.social writes in Complaint:

"we know that some of the most revealing papers in the colonial archives - and by revealing, I mean revealing colonial violence - were destroyed by the colonizers. It can be telling, which papers are not preserved."

local police are not better than ice because they haven't used chemical munitions against people, they are all part of the same {very bad} imperial machine

i read opposition to the development on Washtenaw and Chicago

i would expect homeowners in the area to be ecstatic for new housing that could increase their own value

but they don't want renters in the neighborhood
i read part of the chicago zoning code, it's a lot of words to say poor people aren't allowed

i can't do the kind of reading that is a seek and find for what one word is different between clauses

i can understand when a game is so far tilted for capital that we have to argue about zoning changes

part of how we can tell a City Council member is making cover for themselves is some of the language is very technical while other language is not

buildings with 5 or more apartments arrange their own "waste management" so it would not be an issue and parking is only an issue if you want it to be

so we have at least 3 constituents to put their opposition to a zoning change in writing and make cover for the City Council to defer to Alderman Villegas when he says no thank you and requests less housing be built

and what would making cover be in chicago without a petition to your alderman

this neighbor emails Alderman Villegas's office with words like "the whole neighborhood is against the rezoning"

and does the very chicago thing, dropping i gotta guy

"i put in a call to Kyle Bartlett (the assistant zoning administrator) to get a better understand..."

"Super job getting a development here in the first place!"

Alderman Villegas did less than nothing to get a development on the parcel at Chicago and Washtenaw. The property was for sale by its owner and the developer bought it.

The City was not involved in any way except to downsize the project.

let's dissect some of the critique that comes into an Alderman's office about proposed housing developments

the art of making cover

City Council members often tell constituents to "join in the process" by "making your voice heard" and encourage feedback even though City Council holds formal power

"I respectfully urge Alderman Villegas to oppose the rezoning request to B2-3"

is very specific language for a person to use when emailing a member of City Council

Alderman Villegas does not need to issue street parking permits to anyone and this person has a parking space deeded with her condo

"So if 5 stories goes up here, will someone propose a 6 story a few blocks away..."

we will eventually force Oak Park to build high rises so they can see over all the 5 story buildings in Chicago

we should not have housing because that might mean more housing, escalating housing
