#advertisers
Basically Youtube badly needs a 'block' button beyond waiting for then to show in the recommended list and hoping 'do not recommend' works, or resorting to using browser extensions.

But we know advertisers will hate it far more then they hate that we don't give then all the money...

Information is key, advantage, money. People are after ours. From polls to politicians, advertisers to stores to AI. Many of us make an effort to shield our personal data from (mis)use. But I'm left wondering how much is seen without notice.

Was just looking through "Explore" at "Suggested Accounts", and so much of what's there are accounts we all fucking know about already, if not downright "follow this so you can buy things and make our potential advertisers happy" kinda shit.

How about finding us some actual friends, you amateurs?

So you want them to do the investigative journalism about data brokers, hire attorneys to clear it, without being able to profit off of it by law, and do so without advertisers creating a potential conflict of interest.

But you also don't want to contribute anything.

I don't know what to tell you

You know the Post columnists just outright lie, spread hate, Islamophobia, and disinformation.

They are the Canadian Fox News. A garbage journal that should be ignored at minimum, boycotted along with their advertisers at best.

Retiree here. I'm thinking about turning off all devices (phones, tablets, laptops, routers, modems, TVs) at 2:00 and leaving them off for the rest of the day. I figure if enough people did that, advertisers would notice. (Or I'm probably just full of it.)

I swear if advertisers found a way to beam their ads onto our dream they will do it.

Truly impactful opposition lies not in angry expressions, but in understanding the flow of funds and exerting sustained and rational market pressure on advertisers, because the market is never persuaded, but only forced to change.

Unless something's changed, TV money comes from networks that pay for the rights to broadcast who then recoup that money from subscription fees and/or advertisers. And TV money is the most lucrative revenue stream. Not subscribing, streaming, nor watching absolutely will hit them the hardest.

You can block individual ads, but not advertisers on YouTube, as far as I can tell, so I end up blocking ads from the same shitty AI video generator apps like 50 times before I actually see a decrease. And that's most of the ads I'm getting now: AI videos and vibe coding.

Ban it. Boycott it. Boycott the advertisers. Run it into the ground financially.

@whoadvertiseson.bsky.social is a great site that needs more followers. They catalog what advertisers are big supporters of Fox News and other radical right-wing cesspools. Some examples are Trivago, The Farmers Dog and Mint Mobile.

Does Fox have any advertisers? Might be time to ask them if they support this sort of trash.

I've noticed all the advertising has shifted over the last year. 2024 every other ad was for a Swiffer or Febreeze product, now it's high reward credit cards for rich people. Advertisers know only the top 10% have any money to spend.

TV money doesn't flow to owners from audience, but rather advertisers. To hit them in the pocket is to stop going to games and no concessions, as well as merchandise sold retail.

GO AFTER THE ADVERTISERS!!
If advertisers see enough negative impact they will have to consider stopping adverts on X for their own good.
