I know it's spring training but this ump has got me chanting ROBO UMP

Some umps are very good at calling balls and strikes. It's the ones who are terrible at it that have created the necessity to go to robo umps. The umpires have no one to blame but the union who have always insisted on a rotation that has every ump taking his turn behind the plate.

Okay, the Mariners and Blue Jays have both gotten a second chance because the ump was afraid to punch 'em out. Bring on the robo-umps.

I’ve not been wild about the idea of a robo ump but this game is making me think maybe it’s a good idea

Cubs starter Cody Poteet is the first MLB player to challenge an umpire’s call under the ABS (Robo-Ump) system. Ump called it a ball. System showed a strike on Max Muncy.

Alfonso Marquez is in my top 10 most disliked umpires. Somebody is going to get tossed tonight. Robo ump please. 🤢

My conspiracy theory is everyone who is against the robo ump behind home plate is actually just Jomboy with sock puppet accounts cuz his output would be halved

I'm just here for the Robo Ump comments.

Ball four call in the strike zone in the second inning, would have ended the inning. Instead, it’s a 4 point swing. Meanwhile, ump misses two calls fully out of the zone last inning to Harper, one of them for strike 3. Phils have been bad this game, but sheesh. Robo umps now

Good stuff from Evan Drellich:

The robo ump could cause a unexpected casualty: the TV strike zone box

The robo ump could cause a unexpected casualty: the TV strike zone box
MLB is weighing options to dramatically reduce or remove the ubiquitous broadcast strike zone box as part of bringing the robo ump online.

Can we just go to robo balls and strikes please? This season, games have been ridiculous for missed calls.

Let the ump do the other home plate duties but we have the technology to get the balls and strikes right.

alternatively: one day an ump is gonna get caught betting on games and robo umps will be implemented the next day

Robo ump can't come soon enough.
October 28, 2025 at 12:37 AM
The MLB site shows a marginal but significant difference. I think robo-ump would have the same calls.
October 9, 2025 at 10:39 PM
I’m begging the MLB to stop the ump show. Bring on robo-umps.

Some discourse suggests the umps are okay with it on some level, as robo strike zones won't remove the need for a home plate umpire for all the other things a home plate ump does. Especially if MLB lands on the "challenge" system which some AAA leagues are testing out, rather than a pure robo BB-K.

“Hey, a robo ump that accurately calls the strike zone as described in the rule book actually makes for a pretty bad product that everyone involved hates” was a pretty early outcome of the experiments, and that never stopped accounts like this from calling for it!

Apparently the HP Ump has a plane to catch. Robo Umps.......

At least they want humans to stay in charge and not the academic freedom version of MLB’s robo-ump

Exit Philosophy podcast, now on YouTube, ignores Vlad for once, to deal with Bo Bichette's future as a Blue Jays as he also head to free agency hoping to rebound from an off-year. Should he stay or should he go? Scherzer's thumbs down on robo-ump. Like. Subscribe. open.substack.com/pub/richgrif...
The Flow and Bo do they both go
Exit Philosophy was tiring of Vlad talk, shifts to Bo
