A 🧵 to remind myself:

In 2016 I took an extended trip to France. I'd been learning the language for ~2 years and thought it'd be a great way to gauge my progress. I had visions of spontaneous conversations with French natives at cafes and museums. I was going to be the charming American.

To the seven people on Bluesky who haven't yet declared that Venezuela is a distraction from the Epstein files, please check that box so we can achieve 100% saturation and move on. Thank you.

I figured today would be a struggle but...

A quick scan of Drudge Report has me wondering if this is real life. Cuba, Greenland, Colombia, Mexico all supposedly in the crosshairs of the sociopathic pedophile. He's really going to burn it all down before he leaves, isn't he.

It's 12:33am and I'm struggling to stay awake as long as possible. Like many of you, I don't want to return to reality in the morning. 2026 is liable to be an incredibly difficult year, maybe even existential, so forgive me for wanting to remain in holiday mode for just a little bit longer.

We don't have proof but we're quite sure Penny was abused by her former family. It's taking years but she's slowly learning how to cuddle. A few minutes ago I sat on the floor, she approached and lowered her head onto my lap. Dogs are so special.

Bluesky feature request: ability to mute an account only on certain day(s) of the week. People should definitely be able to mute me on Sundays when I spew random thoughts about football. They should also mute me every other day of the week.

Oh my God, Eagles need to cut Kelee Ringo the moment the clock hits 0:00. We are seriously at risk of pissing away the #2 seed (pending Bears outcome) and our backup secondary is looking like a high school squad.

Kevin Harlan is what I imagine an AI announcer would sound like. I'm sure he's a great guy but I just can't handle his style. I acknowledge I'm in the minority and most of Bluesky loves him and it's all good.

Was guiding my autistic stepdaughter through her Budgeting assignment, with a whole section on "wants" versus "needs". We got to this question and I thought it'd be a train wreck — but she said without hesitation, "Help."

I gave her a big, long hug. There really was no better answer than that.

I'm under the impression this sort of parading of a PoW was a violation of Geneva Conventions, but then again, nothing matters anymore. China: if you step in, feel free to capture and parade Trump, Hegseth, and other regime members around any way you see fit.

@bsky.app are you going to do anything about this wave of porn bots that auto-likes whatever one posts? Or the 12-day-old sports-related posts that are stuck in Discover Feed? You've been tagged a lot on both issues. What's the plan?

Hawks vs. Niners, huge game. I'll keep my thoughts contained to this thread. My wife is my favorite Hawks fan and it's her birthday, so hopefully that 20-dollar bill I slipped to the NFL brass makes a difference. 🤞

This acoustic version of the Stranger Things theme is surprisingly lovely. 😍 The occasional flips to the Upside Down are a nice touch too.

After three hours of Avatar yesterday and this bullshit with Venezuela today, looks like imperialism is a prominent theme of the new year.

About to take the kiddos to see Avatar: Fire and Ash. Running time 3h17m!?! God help me…

I sat on the floor to take a break from a course, Murphy and Daphne promptly settled in for cuddles. Snoring has begun. This might take a while and that's okay. Priorities, man.

The new year is already thrusting me into new territory. 😬

After years of React + TypeScript I’ll need time to adjust to SwiftUI syntax. Chaining modifiers and contextual type inferences, oh my! Especially confusing that code completion doesn’t seem to suggest shorthands like .borderedProminent.

I'm really thankful for Stranger Things; it captured the essence of the 80s in such a legendary way. I won't lie and say I found the finale brilliant, rather the last hour felt like a formulaic and maudlin farewell to a self-aware franchise. But man, there were so many fun moments along the way.

Told my wife (who's in Mexico) I'd give the kiddos a sip of champagne for NYE, sent her this (with sparkling cider) as a prank.

Wish I'd known "baby namer" was a profession, I would've looked into it. I've been known to call babies all sorts of names, especially on planes.
