#Reinfection
“Due to the reinfection in 2024, I’m no longer able to sit out in the garden - a pleasure that took me two and a half years to build to, and only one reinfection took away from me again." Lydia Fischer Dooley, disabled by #LongCOVID triggered by a 2nd COVID in 2022.

Wear. A. Mask. #WearAMask
Covid, Flu A, and RSV are wreaking havoc. COVID weakens your immune system, making you more vulnerable to reinfection and other viruses. That helps explain why Flu A cases are surging now. All of these illnesses cause long term health effects.

I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine what it feels like to be an expert & still have family unwilling to take your advice. I’m just someone paying attention to the science & feel deeply frustrated. I try to convince loved ones already badly affected by Covid to avoid reinfection. No one wants to hear it.

This is another aspect that needs a 2025 tweak: those who went a bit batshit in 2020 about “pre-existing conditions” care even less now about them and five years in about others in general. Tell them they’re playing Russian roulette with their health which each reinfection and it may plant a seed.

1 Covid isn’t over
2 long covid exists
3 each reinfection risks worse symptoms
I don’t have the means to check this site out but I urge everyone to to stay alert & use whatever legitimate health resources they have access to
Wear a mask if you can & during the flue outbreak if you feel ill
Here’s a treatment protocol for Long Covid and ME according to international expert consensus (evidence level 2).

In a few minutes you get an overview of the treatment options.

Good news! I was 100% right when I told my boss I'd know by the end of this week if my prescription of low levels of antibiotics was going to prevent a reinfection.

Bad news ...

It's maddening to constantly be on the verge of homeless because I got long covid and have people who dont mask tell me to stay indoors forever if I feel unsafe. That wont even be a fucking option and life gets way more stressful when you're homeless and trying to avoid reinfection.
I know everyone's not poor because I see mutual aid seekers struggling for food & housing & medication & I know there are a lot of more comfortable people than them, who aren't poor, ignoring them.
When yall say things like everyone is poor it makes me realize that you have not actually looked poverty in the face.

It is absolutely disingenuous for anyone to liken him/herself to people who cannot pay bills, who are unhoused, who truly have empty cupboards, who do not have warm sheets.

COVID is a systemic disease that can harm the brain, heart, immune system and more.

Every reinfection increases the risk of Long COVID, chronic illness, disability and even death.

If people understood the real danger, they’d take prevention seriously instead of accepting repeated infections.

YES. We are five years into constant reinfection of a virus that causes literal brain damage.
November 29, 2025 at 12:01 AM
This is the long term effects of COVID - and everyone is at risk of new or worsened damage from every reinfection. This is not speculation. There’s a vast set of data on this at this point.

Also, Covid vax does NOT provide immunity, can keep you out of hospital & maybe prevent Long Covid but you can still get infected & researcher Putrino says there is no such thing as a Covid infection without consequence

Alt text: chart Fig. 1: Effectiveness of previous infection against reinfection
New study in Nature finds no such thing as natural immunity to covid after the arrival of omicron. Pre omicron, infection provided 80% protection against re-infection one year later. This falls to under 5% at one year with omicron
November 23, 2025 at 6:12 PM
“Pre-Omicron, infection meant you had 80% protection against re-infection one year later. Post-Omicron, this has fallen to 5% protection at one year, highlighting that vaccination is more important than ever for people with vulnerable immune systems.”

NB: this is immunity against REINFECTION

Can recurrent COVID damage your heart and brain?

From Grok:

Yes, recurrent COVID-19 infections can damage both the heart and the brain. Evidence from clinical studies, autopsies, and large cohort analyses shows that each infection increases cumulative risk, even in mild cases.
November 17, 2025 at 1:56 AM
yeahhhh… asbestosis can take years and years to develop…

covid is out here reactivating dormant cancer cells, causing cumulative damage with each reinfection, rewriting our immune systems from inside our bone marrow *right now.*
November 16, 2025 at 8:57 PM
/3 You are not “immune” to repeated hits.
Reinfection risk is cumulative.
Damage adds up — even when symptoms don’t.
November 15, 2025 at 11:19 AM
everyone is vulnerable to covid. it goes into our bone marrow and rewrites our immune systems.

only takes a single infection to give you long covid and a bunch of other chronic illnesses, as well as damage that accumulates with each reinfection.

“It’s not just the illness. It’s the social response to COVID that has grown up around us, isolates & alienates us, creating a sense of pressure, anxiety & tension. People don’t believe in our illness, & they work to ensure reinfection risk is high as it can be.”

For years I've described having Long COVID as living in a horror movie. Now that horror movie (well, prestige Apple TV show) is here.

« People do not believe in our illness, and not only do they not care to help us avoid reinfection, they actively work to ensure that reinfection risk is as high as it can possibly be. »
Living with Long COVID often feels like living in a horror movie. Along with your disease comes a creepy Hive Mind refusal to acknowledge the dangers of COVID infection. In Vince Gilligan's new Apple TV show Pluribus, the Hive Mind comes to life:

Excellent review of Pluribus - and parallels with the Covid Hive mentality happening now. The new normal - no worse than a cold - take off that mask and join us! It is an uphill battle to avoid reinfection when no one bothers to test or mask. 😷
