The only macronutrient we worry about is fiber.

Never full of shit around here.

Column: America's obsession with protein has led to a multibillion-dollar industry promoting excessive intake, despite most people already consuming more of the macronutrient than needed.

The most “complete” protein is probably one you’re already eating.

The protein scam...👇

"Behind this macronutrient madness are 3 assumptions: We’re not getting enough protein. The more the better. Meat is the best way to get it.

The problem? They’re not true."

Reality: You probably don't need more. Meat ain't superior. Plants a fine source.

Whether through grains, beans, or even fruit, there’s plenty of protein in a plant-strong diet. We only need 5-8% of our calories from protein, and since protein is the one macronutrient that we can’t store, when you get above 15% it either stores as fat or we excrete it.

If you ride bikes and you wanna really annoy rich bike guys, one of the fastest ways I’ve found is telling them that a Honey Stinger has the same macronutrient profile as a pop-tart. Happy pop-tart day or whatever.

Each different macronutrient gives a different amount of calories, and which macronutrients you need will vary dramatically based on which type of spending you do. High intensity, low load -> more carbs. High load, low intensity -> more protein.

I could go on and on, but you may already know this.

However, regaining insulin sensitivity can reverse these issues.

There are many ways to naturally improve insulin sensitivity too.

· Exercise
· Macronutrient ratios
· Caloric intake
· Sleep

All play key roles

Combination of diet culture (keto, etc) and bro culture and unregulated supplement markets (that are allowed to basically lie in advertising) have created a pretty widespread perception in this idiot country that protein is the "good" macronutrient, unlike carbs or fat.

This is completely unsubstantiated: if we have a more diverse population and with first generation families average height is lower.

IMO I don’t think we a major macronutrient problem in the US.
