In parts... The Settle & Carlisle line is breath taking!

Garsdale to Horton-in-Ribblesdale is amazing. In my opinion the rest of the line is rather meh

This #YorkshireDales walk from Horton in Ribblesdale provides an alternative to the usual, higher level routes from there. It provides a ridge walk to the ‘nose’ of Pen y ghent, follows part of the river Ribble and includes the curious Milk Churn Hole. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/York...

Today I’ve had a bit of a day out with no plan…

Started with walk from Arnside to Silverdale. Then headed to Carnforth and onto the S&C!

Today was about trying to rediscover the fun of travelling by train!

Local stone was quarried and used for construction, creating the characteristic vernacular architecture of villages like Horton in Ribblesdale. The
view is across the churchyard next to the village church with the top of Pen y Ghent visible above the roofs of the houses.

Horton in Ribblesdale churchyard provides a good view of the surrounding buildings of interest - and a fine stile too!

Enjoy the names of the stops on my train journey in Yorkshire. Americans, these are completely genuine.

Looks like we're in for more glorious weather here in Yorkshire!
With extremely low water levels it's a great time to head out to a stream to see what you can find!

We recently spotted this lovely little Siphonodendron amongst the cobbles in a dry stream near Horton in Ribblesdale.

Randomly browsing Wikipedia and noticed that Pen-y-ghent despite its very Welsh sounding name (actually Cumbric) doesn't actually have an entry on Welsh Wikipedia.

Although it is available in Persian and some other languages.

Good / interesting walk yesterday- we went from Ribblehead to Horton in Ribblesdale via Ingleborough…

Weather was interesting overall, and much of the morning was an exercise in endurance..

Was good to be with friends though, and to be outside (no bad weather, just poor clothes!)

First time on the bike for two weeks since being royally shafted by a bout of sciatica. Rode down the #Wensleydale with Anita, then solo from Hawes to Horton-in-Ribblesdale against a savage headwind.

She's got local invites, BBC have also been in touch.
Behind the comfort of the dot watching are many stories eg when she arrived at Horton in Ribblesdale, after being lost in thick fog on Fountains Fell, on arriving at the checkpoint she was hypothermic, wouldn't let her go 'til got body temp up.
