Thanks! I was very proud to be writing real-time, nodal based audio imagery synthesis code in C++ back in 2005 when the best we had was a Core2Duo processor! We had to write our own OpenGL GUI framework, too, because nothing would do what we needed it to, especially for "dark mode" applications.

I've discovered that #Netatalk mostly outperforms #APFS when the file server is running #Core2Duo or better as long as the netatalk/afp host has gigabit ethernet.
A 2010 Mac mini running #Debian 13 serving ~1 million files outperforms #APFS wish the same workload by about 1000 times. (2/2)

Arch, gave it a try once years ago and didn’t understand it yet, this time I did. I’m using Niri for a lightweight desktop environment. I’ve since installed it on my 2012 MBP, my Ryzen 9 tower, and was amazed at how well it ran on a 2010 Core2Duo MBP.

Also, apparently 2024 & newer versions of Win11 won't work on Core2Duo era processors, due to a lack of POPCNT/other SSE4.2 instructions. I probably could've looked that up on Google before using Rufus to write an image on a USB stick, but why not do things the hard way? 🤡

So far, my poll has suggested a majority in favor of me turning my Core2Duo era iMac from a Windows 10 box into a Linux box, with Debian, PopOS and Manjaro specified. On the BSD side, OpenBSD was supported.

軽量linuxの評価に起動直後のメモリ使用量で比較する人が多いんだけど、それで見ていくとメモリ使用量は低いlubuntu 24は軽量って事にはなる。
でも、実際に非力なマシン（core2duo ２GB）とかに入れてみると、めちゃくちゃ重い。 起動は三分かかるし、動作ももっさり。 どうもubuntuでは標準になってしまったsnapが原因みたいなんである。
別の非力マシンに入れたsparky linux + xfceなんかの方がメモリ使用量は大差ないけど起動時間、動作ともだいぶ軽い感じである。
でも、実際に非力なマシン（core2duo ２GB）とかに入れてみると、めちゃくちゃ重い。 起動は三分かかるし、動作ももっさり。 どうもubuntuでは標準になってしまったsnapが原因みたいなんである。

also on the watch for an LGA 775 mobo that I can use my core2duo E8400 on to put in this beast! current mobo wouldn't be a waste though cause it's microatx~ may be able to be put to good use if I find myself gutting an optiplex uwu

現状、Win10はThinkPad X61(Core2Duo)とX220(Sandy Bridge)と、あとClevo P150HMx(Sandy Bridge)だな。X61はESU終わったらそのまま引退だけど、Sandy BridgeマシンはWin11にする冒険もアリかな??
