Tonight is Christmas Eve, when we in Iceland open presents. All the Yule Lads have already come down from the mountains, but tonight the Yule Cat arrives and he will eat all the children who weren't gifted any new clothes for Christmas.

My daughters both got woollen socks so they are safe 🙏

i know a lot of the javascript community thinks that people who complain about frontend complexity are just being cynical but it turns out that caking on layer upon layer of abstractions can have real-world consequences
Researchers have found two new vulnerabilities in React Server Components while attempting to exploit the patches last week.

These are new issues, separate from the critical CVE last week. The patch for React2Shell remains effective for the Remote Code Execution exploit.

In Odesa, a man's watch broke. He sees a store with the clock sign, walks in, says my watch is broken.

The store owner: but we don't repair watches.
Man: what do you do?
Store owner: circumcision
Man: but why is there a clock sign?
Store owner: what would you like me to hang up there instead?

If you're in need of positive and rather wholesome news, there's a high school teacher named Bryan who took a ton of freely licensed celebrity headshots at the New York Film Festival last month for Wikipedia, and I truly can't believe how drastic the upgrade is for some articles (thread)

my mom taught me there's two kinds of businesses: hot dog stands and art galleries

- hot dog stands protect territory and keep competition off their turf
- art galleries benefit from more adjacent art galleries, cluster together to amplify reach/support

youre an art gallery, not a hot dog stand
Play and discuss as if you were friends trying to get to know each other better, rather than as if you were rival squawking merchants trying to sell competing goods in a marketplace. The world is full of friends and potential friends, and it's much lonelier and more frightening when it isn't.

Yep this. The bottleneck has never been typing speed; it's always been human understanding and intent. There's some benefit to making that intent translate faster in iteration loops, but software engineering as a discipline ain't going anywhere.
People outside tech starting to realize how quality software and typing/generating code fast are not correlated

I don’t know if he said that but he should.
