If you need to do this much throat clearing before you can manage to say "Kidnapping people for political speech is very bad, actually" then it's time to step back, have a lozenge, and cede leadership to someone more suited to the moment.

Reading about the shortage of firefighters in LA and already seeing help from as far as Canada makes me think about the countless times fire crews have come here from all over the world to support us. (& we have sent ours in return!) As climate emergencies increase...it's harder to spare personnel.

I've harped on this before, but "availability of home insurance" will keep growing as a political issue, and a whole lot of people's brains are not equipped to handle it. Insurers aren't doing stuff like this (nor leaving markets outright) for fun. Climate change is making stuff uninsurable.

PSA to my friends in California near the fires: breathing in wildfire smoke is really bad for you (even if it’s not super thick where you are) but if you have face masks (N95, KN95, etc) those can help a lot
