studies literally just came out about how dependence on LLMs atrophies critical thinking abilities
If you have zero education, but learn how to ask AI models the right questions , in many jobs you will be able to outperform someone with an advanced degree, but who is unwilling to use Large Language Models.

Just takes a smartphone, curiosity to experiment and a mindset to learn.

We've been busy in 2025 working on research deadlines and funding proposals. But I did a lengthy interview with Freakonomics radio, just released as audio and text transcript. It covers Bracelets of Silence, Fawkes, Glaze & Nightshade, thoughts on present & future.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Any artist (and writing is art) who uses AI is a class traitor. And a fool of the highest degree, feeding the beast that intends to devour them next.
Writers i love you but please stop using AI art on your book covers.

Draw it yourself use public domain images barter with a friend ANYTHING ELSE.

It feels like you hate us visual artists when you use AI art

Seeing bad faith folks yet again pretend Glaze is environmentally impactful (it’s not), and claim style mimicry isnt a problem, when so many artists have been screwed over by LORAs.

Like hey, if a free university program isnt for you, cool! No problem! But can we stop spreading lies on it? Thnx!
Just to be clear, webglaze runs on a server that is more than 3 years old, on NVidia Titan RTX GPUs, which you can buy on some bigger laptops. It consumes about 1/2 the power of an A100, which is the previous generation of server GPUs. Webglaze runs on < 0.5 modern datacenter GPU.

Hey friends!

Just a reminder that I have a feed to help #art posts with lower engagement get noticed 🙂

It is in random order and only includes posts with the #art hashtag, at least one image, and 20 or fewer likes.

HEY CAN WE NOT??? Some guy got caught feeding everyone’s Bluesky data into AI just a few weeks ago and now y’all are just throwing it into the machine anyway? You don’t need AI to roast yourselves, some of you do it on your own.

I have zero moral qualms tbh. An intense obligation to morals and ethics is propaganda fed to the working class so they don't hold the ruling class (who commit innumerable atrocities) accountable imo.

At the very least, I think it's bizarre to care about this man being murdered.
No shit murder is bad. The jokes about the United CEO aren’t really about him; they’re about the rapacious healthcare system he personified and which Americans feel deep pain and humiliation about

I've been wanting to learn how to draw (more like dreaming about...) for a while now, and honestly, setting myself at it with the right book to learn really makes me lament not doing it earlier. But hey, never a better moment than the present, right?

Every time there's a post about how writers shouldn't use AI art, some chucklefuck in the comments says it's not fair because "some people just don't have art skills."

So, from a former "person without art skills," here's a 🧵 about the cool shit that's happened since I decided to make art anyway.
