this is to me the same issue in terms of why I was upset about Larian: a pattern of behaving badly towards the labor that makes a game possible
NEW: For the last seven weeks, Naughty Dog has enacted mandatory overtime for staff to finish an internal demo of their next game, Intergalactic. The game won't be out until 2027, leaving some staff wondering: If they're crunching now, what will next year be like? www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The CBS 60 Minutes Doc confirms what we knew: The U.S. is currently using our tax dollars to imprison brown people with no criminal record in torture camps overseas.

It’s no wonder administration shill Bari Weiss pulled this off the air: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjY7...

A billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work to prevent the acquisition of the former with the same urgency and ruthlessness we use to prevent the acquisition of the latter.
This is obscene. Why can't other politicians say that?

The 25 richest families are collectively $358.7 billion richer than a year ago, with a combined fortune totaling $2.9 trillion.

David Brooks, who wrote in the NYT last month, "The Epstein Story? Count Me Out" is... in the latest Epstein photo dump published by @oversightdemocrats.house.gov.

He should absolutely be fired by NYT for this. Major conflict of interest that he didn't disclose.

More proof of what @prisonculture.bsky.social says that most people in this country have no idea what's going on:

Yesterday two different clients told me they wanted to take their cases to the Supreme Court because they knew there was still a liberal majority.

Federal immigration cops are using "wellness checks" on minors as a ruse to get into homes and arrest people for alleged immigration violations. In this case, an alleged check on a 17-year-old let them arrest his 22-year-old brother, who was brought here at 11 and has protected status.

I strongly encourage ICE to continue to piss off local law enforcement by interfering with their cases. That seems like a great idea to me.

as @bretdevereaux.bsky.social wrote immediately after j6, the very clear lesson from the ancient republics is that you have GOT to aggressively punish the LEADERS of coups and putsches... because otherwise those fuckers just come back and try again

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

One thing that the nazis did upon gaining power was to take measures to rapidly increase wages across the board. This was part of the propaganda. It worked quite well.

This admin is doing cargo cult nazism. All of the attempts at and aesthetics of power without the intermediary steps to get to it.
There IS a model for what he's trying to do, it happens all the time in municipal politics.

You can steal from people quite a bit, you can implement ruinous policy, you can get away with it but you HAVE to offer a tangible immediate bribe to distract from the pain.
I spent years around Philly politics, I'm not naive.

We certainly have plenty of self-dealing political actors.

But if you're going to use your union treasury to finance your sportscar, you damn better be giving your members free turkeys every Thanksgiving, and an open bar at the holiday party

I am so sick and tired of people treating racism and nazism like it’s an inherently working class thing, we have plenty of examples of that shit crossing socioeconomic boundaries.

This guy could easily be another Fetterman or worse.
who among us hasn’t gotten an accidental nazi symbol tattooed across our chest and then kept it for 18 years accidentally while campaigning for us senator?

Ever seen the story of the wayward and rebellious son used to beat obedience into people?

What if it were actually the harbinger of a new vision of what could be ?

How we read teaches us a lot about how we address our problems in real life, after all:
On textual activism, and how we can use it to change our political reality.

What possibilities open for us when we start interpreting text differently than we always have?

On expanding the toolkit of approaches and how it expands our ideas about what's possible:
textual activism and the ancestral toolbox
the story of the rebellious child shows us how we can face painful texts, our own problems, and the challenges beyond

Simeon Brown is forcing Health NZ to sign 10 year contracts with private hospitals - meaning it will be very difficult for a future government to back out of the contracts. But the evidence is clear, privatised healthcare costs more and delivers worse outcomes: www.rnz.co.nz/news/on-the-...
NZ’s shift to more private healthcare will likely raise costs and reduce quality: what the evidence tells us
Analysis: Studies show public healthcare is more likely to lead to better health outcomes, and diverting public funds to private healthcare erodes the quality of public care.
