This might sound dramatic but I legit teared up a little there earlier today.

The vibes were so good — this is the city Chicagoans deserve.

How much can you bench bro?

Sad to see the Lincoln Ave Promenade benches go? Go support @slowstreets.org, they've got plans to bring them back.

We did it Chicago. We banned cars on Lincoln. Go enjoy the car free street for the next 10 days.

If you want to see more benches donate to the Lincoln Square Safe Streets Union of Bike Grid Now and leave a comment letting us know you're donating for benches.

Supporters of this plan need to stay extremely positive, act to help people having problems, and not play a game of arguing. Because the joy of this place speaks for itself. So good.

Applies right now in Lincoln Square
How many times have I passed up stopping in a store when I was in a car. All the hassles-parking-dealing with other cars. With children endless buckling & unbuckling & reinserting in strollers. In a pedestrian/cycling zone you need only seduce me into your shop with a single interesting object!
Remember, when Barcelona eliminated 3 lanes of vehicle traffic & converted this street into a 4.7km green pedestrian corridor in the heart of the Eixample grid, businesses sued. They actually won. But by decision-time, the businesses had decided they actually like it.

It truly is incredible how community and humanity immediately thrive as soon as cars are removed from public space.
This feels special to me. I don’t know how else to say it. Lincoln Square is standing on the precipice of something great. I hope the right people realize it.

I feel the same way. I am here again just to have a little breakfast and work. 9:30 in the morning doesn’t feel like this usually. I don’t feel like I have to just get in and get what I need and leave.

Having the square blocked off to cars has been even nicer than I expected. Would be such a gift to the neighborhood and city to make this permanent.

I walked through here tonight en route to some errands and I was smiling the whole time. It was so pleasant, no honking, no traffic, no one disobeying the stop sign at the end of the street. I'd love if this became permanent.

Joking aside, top down leadership is what is required here. Enough polling, enough with yielding to preconceptions of small business owners. Lead.
If I were the Alder of this Ward, I would commandeer a bulldozer and go Megis Field on that stretch of Lincoln. Carve big ass X’s on either side and let the middle return to nature.

We have a park but I wish we had safer streets to bike on.

Also I go to therapy a block from here and it hasn’t been any harder to park, so it seems like the neighborhood can absorb it just fine

I have met more of my neighbors in the past 3 days than I have in the past 2 years of living in Lincoln Square and it's all thanks to a temporary road closure, some benches, and chalk.

We need to get cars off our streets, ASAP.

I can’t stop going these past few days. It’s so much better this way.
Safe streets advocates aren't waiting for decision-makers to turn Lincoln into a more people-friendly street. On Monday they did it themselves.
