Reupping.

What known facts suggest abt violence of this week is that Greg Bovino was in the command chain for both, and HIS boss is Stephen Miller.

We have to start focusing the question on whether Stephen Miller ordered all this, like he ordered the murderboats before the Venezuelan invasion.

Hard agree

Recent No Kings example: 95% great. Reps & others spoke & actually did a good job, wasn't just platitudes & etc, but eventually a couple organizers get on the mic & start talking about crap that 95% of the crowd either doesn't understand or actively disagrees with

It doesn't help!
This is absolutely a huge problem in protest culture and it’s a major obstacle to allowing protests to grow. People are turning up to protests to fight Trump, ICE, recent abuses. Invariably the speakers are going off about 200 years of stolen land or US imperialism, and many of those people leave.
I really agree with this—my stance is not “don’t bring in other issues” but “for the love of god, do NOT bring in other issues in a ham-fisted way that doesn’t illuminate the connection for someone who didn’t already agree”

I have seen ppl who were highly motivated to protest a particular thing…

I certainly don’t mind if protest leaders do a little bit of broader contextualizing, but they’re generally straying into highly controversial and aggressive topics that alienate a lot of attendees. I mean frankly the root problem is that they’re weird people with extreme views. Let normies speak
One thing to clarify: There is some extent to which you will have to talk about things that not everyone knows about, and things that not everyone agrees with. I am not talking about making it something so sanitized that it's useless. I am talking about focused rage rather than confused dispersal

On the other hand it is easier to organise mass action in Minnesota when temperatures are +20 degrees Celsius in May than they are when temperatures are -20 degrees Celsius in January
It would be insane, and chilling, if George Floyd's killing sparked national protests but what happening with ICE does not.

It would be very reflective of how cowed and paralysed the American people have become, so quickly, under the Trump regime.
I hope Renee Nicole's bravery lights the blue touchpaper of mass civil resistance. Not just for the sake of America, but for the whole world. Murders like hers, especially caught on video, have a recent history of doing that.

The most infuriating protest moment of the year for me was a No Kings rally, where tons of attendees were flying Ukrainian flags, and speakers going off about US imperialism in Ukraine.

How hard can it be to read the room?? They literally brought signs telling you what they care about
Sorry, I agree that thinking Ukraine is like Iraq is disqualifying. That was a little ambiguous.

The U.S. military action in Venezuela marks a turning point.

An international human rights scholar warns it reflects a shift toward unilateral, autocratic power, unconstrained by law and balance of power, and using force to impose the Trump administration’s will on other nations.
2026 begins with an increasingly autocratic United States rising on the global stage
The US attack on Venezuela highlights a shifting American foreign policy that dismisses a rules-based global order and focuses on economic interests and military might.
