Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

The way all of these people convinced themselves that Mamdani is antisemitic is a subject far more worthy of media examination than any of the ‘groupthink on campuses!’ thinkpieces we’ve been subjected to

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

Starting at about 50 minutes, this is pretty remarkable.
The first 3rd of this is incredibly boring (as he builds trust), the second 3rd is amusing, the last 3rd will absolutely tear your heart out. This is a must watch, and don't feel guilty about skipping to the first commercial break

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I will say this: I am quite done throat clearing on this subject. The weakest A.I. booster argument is to whine about this point because it allows them to make success a binary "useful or not" rather than "actually capable of anything resembling the nonsense OpenAI and Anthropic promise"
I don’t think there’s a single serious critic who says AI’s not useful? The concerns I see are about content rights, worker impacts, environmental effects, epistemological threats, or media manipulation. But that’s all predicated on the idea that it *does* work, often too well for people to manage…
The NYT Magazine asked me and @caseynewton.bsky.social to open their AI issue by talking about how we use AI, why it's not going away, and how you can't be a serious critic if you're in denial about how useful it is. Bluesky's gonna love this one!

I totally appreciate the need for people who can just put their heads down and work, but this insistence Ken has that, as DNC chair, he should be able to completely ignore deep divides in the party and just focus on winning elections is completely delusional

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.

They are in charge.

He was a role model to Gaza’s children, especially those aspiring to become reporters.

I've never seen it stated so plainly: Joyce can imagine herself as an author whose book event is disrupted by protestors so she opposes the protest.

Can you imagine yourself as a fired federal worker or deported immigrant? Wouldn't you want people to take drastic measures on your behalf?
it's true that I tend to support bookstores & book people. I know what it's like to plan for a book evening, arrange chairs, hope for a good turnout. how dismaying it must have been for many when, outside the store, protesters caused a commotion as the event began.
