I have decided this is my year of long books. Just finished The Power Broker, and before that was Brothers Karamazov and before that The Magic Mountain.

All very good.

Once we get closer to the midterms, I will be doing lots of canvassing for the dems.

Exception: the couple I saw on the red line in the 2010s who were plucking each other’s nose hairs with tweezers.

Everyone else though!

Devastatingly sad story; I hope for a peaceful resolution.

I would consider this “more likely an artifact of image processing than anything fishy” until more definitive evidence comes to light either way.
February 10, 2026 at 11:08 PM
Very grainy images go through a lot of processing, and that processing leads to a lot of detail being lost — the algorithm basically guesses if something is a detail or noise and can guess wrong. The image on the right is darker and more processed.

You can see hints at the line across the chest.

Unrelated, but reminds me of my favorite construction fuck up when I worked on Goose Island. Cops were supposed to close only westbound Division traffic on the eastern bridge, but one summer afternoon they let traffic in from three directions, but only out one. Gloriously confused delays.

i love european olympics opening ceremonies. the second the ioc names a european host city the prime minister calls the culture minister into their office and says "find me your strangest homosexuals. give each of them a period of our great nation's history, a kilo of cocaine, and Ten Million Euros"

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

Not a dunk but an observation:

Broad, holding-power-to-account journalism like the Post's -- and countless regional newspapers that have been decimated or shuttered -- is a public good and we're gonna have to support it as such.

The days when newspaper empires were wildly profitable are long gone.
Jeff Bezos’s wealth has increased an average of $70 million every day of 2026, meaning that he could have offset The Post’s losses with what he’s made since Monday.

Chili peppers freeze if you don’t use them frequently and I am not sure you can get fish sauce to spoil. Do these folks buy every ingredient from scratch for every single meal?
