i don't think liberals gave up on country music. most of the musicians/fans of the music that fits the genre called "country/western" 30 years ago aren't right wing. mainstream "country" is just a melange of popular genres with some superficial "country" signifiers and reactionary lyrics
Yes, though I'd also argue that giving up entire genres of music to right-wingers--genres of music with very deep roots in working class culture--is not a good political move.
And in fact, there's tons of country out there with great politics. It's just not on the radio.

I swear one of the most important things anyone can do these days is model kindness and sacrifice. We've lost those values and you can't have a society without them

Could not agree more, partisanship overtook all other priorities for the majority of members and voters kept sending them back
IMHO, a large portion of this failure has been caused by the collapse of Congress over the last decade. Congress, in essence, no longer functions as a co-equal branch of government.
In effectively a single blink of the historical eye, we’ve seen our entire constitutional system simply … stop. We can clearly see what’s happening is wrong—illegal and unconstitutional—and the actors who can do something about that just … aren’t. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/america-s-...

one takeaway from the klein/shor interview is americans are, genuinely, desperate for change. they don't feel like the system as it exists is working. *and they're right.* if we decide to make ourselves the party of "nothing's gonna change" we're fucked.
