Political Ecology @ Lund University. Climate mitigation politics, carbon removal and offsetting 🦄 / Books: Overshoot (Verso, 2024); The Long Heat (Verso, 2025)

The Long Heat is finally out from @versobooks.bsky.social today:

It deals with inter alia the promise of climate reversal, climate tipping points, the political economy of carbon removal and the very many antinomies of solar geoengineering.

The Long Heat
The world is crossing the 1.5°C global warming limit, perhaps exceeding 2°C soon after. What is to be done when these boundaries, set by the Paris Agreement, have been passed? In the overshoot era, sc...

Looking for books to get for #climate curious friends & family this Christmas🎄?

Here are 6 of my favourites reads this year.

First up, Yale University historian Sunil Amrith's relentlessly edifying 'The Burning Earth'. A staggeringly comprehensive account of how we got to where we are! 🧵

Finally published a major story I've been working on for some time, with my colleague @atikarehman.bsky.social and @sushmitaw.bsky.social.

Leaked documents have revealed Amazon's "dirty energy empire", as families in Mumbai suffer.

Leak reveals Amazon’s hidden data centres' impact on emissions
Soaring electricity demand in Mumbai, where Amazon has 16 data centres, has led to crumbling coal power stations being kept open.

Currently reading THE LONG HEAT and delighted / horrified to learn that the “wafer-thin mint” Monty Python skit is an allegory for the non-linearity of climate damages.

How so? Well…

Btw this is in no small part Trump's hissy fit over not getting the Nobel peace prize.
Trump has ordered a massive military buildup in the Caribbean.

After months of lethal strikes at sea, Trump is threatening to expand this illegal unauthorized war to Venezuela.

We don’t need another war. We need health care for all.
