I'm reminded that back in the 90s, the unit cost to produce a CD was quite low ($1.50-2.00 in qty), but the wholesale price was quite high ($7-$12), and thus the retail price stayed high. 1/2
Publishers making less money on book sales also means they are more conservative not only in what they choose to invest in (give a contract to) but also how much they spend on publicity and marketing. Not all books get the same level of staffing and investment in getting the word out there.

Almost.

OK so it's dark and rainy and I feel like this story should be shared. The movie Grace Of My Heart is a sort of 'film á clef' loosely based on Carole King's life, interpolating a fictional romance with a character based on Brian Wilson. Musical director J Mascis said they HAD TO use a theremin...
Allison also told an absolutely fucking great Beach Boys anecdote (from Grace Of My Heart soundtrack recording sessions) which would on its own make this one of the great Q&As

If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

It’s that simple.

An educated consumer is anathema to parasitic businesses
The Biden Admin provided $100 million/year for HealthCare.gov for qualified "navigators" to help educate & guide people through the confusing process of enrolling in health insurance and how to use it, as well as the Medicaid & CHIP programs, answering questions and so on.

Trump cut that to $10M.

And insurance companies are probably already determining how to categorize an past COVID-19 infection as a pre-existing condition, too deny you coverage
Stop thinking of COVID as if it's an acute cold. Think of it as a neuroinvasive virus you can get every year or two that slowly degrades your brain in ways that will harm your abilities and quality of life throughout your life. (2/?)
