It explains why a recent purchase of two new-release books (one in hardcover, one in trade paperback) cost $60!

This is NOT to laud egregious profits, just to say that sometimes, some people inside the machine were able to support risk-taking, for many people's benefit. 3/3

Labels could use some of that egregious profit to sign more marginal artists, which sometimes worked out very well for them when those edge cases caught on and became good or great sellers.

A friend spent a few months house-sitting in Vanuatu immediately before COVID hit (gathering at his place to welcome him back was the last social thing we did for a good while);
