What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.

I think it's not talked about enough how there's a system around this to make it possible. Companies are not just "paying absent people for two years" over there.
There is a culture and a civilization around this stuff that makes sure FEW people are stuck in illness (or incarcerated forever etc)

I think Visa and Mastercard may be getting a lot of calls about their adult content policies, but I just called in to PayPal and not only was there no wait, the customer service rep I got had never had one of these calls before (they were very nice about it.)

It's simple, it's about power dynamics. Cancel culture was when powerful perverts and rapists like Harvey Weinstein had their victims speak up and saw consequences, something rich and powerful assholes couldn't abide, whereas people being purged from their jobs is power doing what it's entitled to.
It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.
