Interesting position rn where Iran could wipe most of the US operational air force within about 20 minutes with a preemptive barrage of <100 missiles w/submunition warheads. All those aircraft are just parked in Jordan, Saudi, and Qatar.

They won't, though.

meanwhile on the other site some dude with 47k followers is so mad about I & @jamellebouie.net saying gender affirming surgery for minors isn't a thing - particularly my misuse of literally - that he has been @'ing me about it for over 24hr (also he's gotten like 26 likes because lol, dead website)

my wife needs a new PC because the one I built 7 years ago broke and I’m currently checking my mailbox every day to check if my tax refund has come in so I can grab one of the last prebuilts in stock at Microcenter like I’m fighting for a spot on the embassy helicopter in Saigon. I love technology
AI is revolutionizing the world! A Playstation now costs $5,000 and this is the last phone you will ever own.
“.. ‘many system vendors will go bankrupt or exit product lines due to a lack of memory. Mobile phone production will be reduced by 200-250 million units, and PC and TV production will be significantly reduced.’ Yikes.”

If Biden had forgotten which country one of his ambassadors was assigned to it would have dominated the news for a month
Trump: "Herschel Walker, speaking about loyal. How good a football player was Herschel? Now he's ambassador to the Bahamas. I don't know. Bahamas. Bermuda. Is he Bahamas? Whatever. It's a nice place."

Am I the only person in the world who actually understands what the legal status of Taiwan is? I didn’t think it was that hard tbh it’s pretty standard “overthrown dynasty establishes rump state on the frontier” type stuff it’s happened like 4 times before

the enormously funny fact is that if Taiwan drops their claim to the owning the mainland, this would be seen as an affront to the PRC
Also the US recognised that Taiwan is part of China and that the People's Republic is the official government of China but that doesn't constitute recognising that the PRC is the government of Taiwan.

You may now see why AOC can't state this clearly!

The official US policy over Taiwan is about as comprehensible as the Schleswig-Holstein Question was. To misquote Palmerston, only three people have ever understood it, Richard Nixon, who is dead, a Chinese professor, who has gone mad, and I, who have forgotten.
it's insane to me that the mainstream press is mad at AOC over Taiwan when like, Taiwan policy is basically something basically 5% of the US FP elite can genuinely say coherently

I think what’s happening is that leftists became so much better at producing art than right wingers that that just kind of gave up and decided to spend all their time yelling about it on the internet instead
There used to be a ton of right-leaning artists, poets, writers etc. This kind of person doesn't really exist anymore because all right wing energy is aimed at asserting the intrinsic superiority of this or that arbitrary genetic group on a podcast

tbh i think a lot of this comes down to the hollowing out of state capacity in global nations

neoliberalism has basically driven so many states to P3s that people don't get "states doing things" is still possible, but not necessary radical
china is incredible in its own way but don't mistake that with it being a radical government

i jokingly refer to my politics as "red abundance" primarily because i'm a social democrat who primarily thinks we should be building things

people want to be part of a grander narrative, i feel
Yeah I think why China hype hits so good for so many people is that it's largely a materialist polity that justifies itself with income growth, lower prices, and public projects when The Culture War has become the dominant form of politics elsewhere with many other issues falling to the wayside

Recall the majority opinion in Plyler the justices pointedly said they wanted to avoid creating and underclass of people who wouldn't have a public education due to a legal status beyond their control. And now HF wants to go back to that. Fog horning racism.
The Heritage Foundation is now calling for the overturn of Plyler vs. Doe, the Supreme Court ruling that banned states from denying an education to the children of undocumented immigrants.

this is exactly why I am absolutely not willing to overlook anyone who was once “advocating for ending USAID” as merely committing a little oopsie-daisy-booboo, by the way
The Project 2025 author is using millions of dollars in USAID money for his own security detail.

It is estimated that 762,000 people have *already died* as a result of Elon Musk and Russell Vought’s obscene murder of USAID, including more than 500,000 children.

Vought is a mass murderer.
