made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...
Force A Referendum On The Epstein Coverup
It divides Republicans much more than "affordability" or any other economic issue.

Fun fact: The clerical collar, as we understand it today, was invented in the mid-1800s by Protestants — not Catholics. Which is why Protestants use them.

However, U.S. Catholics adopted it in the 1880s, eventually mandating it for priests.
This is your regular reminder that not everyone who wears a clerical collar is referred to as a "priest," but, instead, often referred to as "pastor" or "minister," and that this has been true — and, in the heavily-protestant U.S., the *literal norm* — for centuries.

During lockdown, Alice and I gave a joint (virtual) talk about representation and accessibility together to a large game company. Unknowingly, we had both referred the other to speak. Working with one of my heroes was one of the greatest honors of my life.

Alice told them to raise my rate.

We recorded this months ago, and I was going to wait to share it bc of everything, but I just realized I talk about Alice’s work as part of the discussion on why and how I created Art Description, because none of my work happens without the influence of her brilliance and generosity of knowledge.

I'm joined by @dreamwisp.bsky.social . She's worked with all the usual suspects in the TTRPG business, and she was the accessibility consultant on Draw Steel. The work she did on Draw Steel, actually broke new ground in the field of art descriptions.

This was a shock to wake up to. Alice Wong was an incredibly gifted writer who was fearless in her perspective. She also really loved Star Trek and her cats, and we'd message about both topics in ways that made you forget about the difficulties in our world. I hope she is raising hell somewhere.
‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

In the last chapter of Alice’s memoir, “Year of the Tiger,” she wrote her own future obituary.

The wonderful “oracle, storyteller, cyborg, trouble-maker, activist, night owl” we loved so much closed it with:

“Enjoy all of Alice’s good shit, and may you create some good shit as well.”

I know this isn’t what’s most important and maybe it’s bc I’m having trouble coping with my own health downturn but all I can think about is Teen Vogue firing her like a week and a half ago.

That was the last thing she talked about here.

That shouldn’t be what I’m remembering.
A real loss. Rest in power, Alice Wong.
