An important stat. I often see things like "NZ had very low Covid deaths but they were in lockdown for 2 years" - the second bit is really not true
Over on the other place, @marcdaalder.bsky.social writes, “During the #Covid19 pandemic, New Zealand students lost fewer days of school than kids in almost any other country – including Sweden – the Royal Commission found.”

NZers: if you're over 45 and haven't had a TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine in the last 10 yrs, you're due for a free booster.
We are in a pertussis epidemic currently, which tragically has recently caused the death of a baby, so it's a good time to boost your immunity.

As Shane Reti said there's no "overt" plan to privatise health. It's barely concealed but covert nevertheless.
New Zealand Average Annual Health Spend Change 1999 till now. Quite a massive change in the last 12 months, the only negative relative change in funding for 25 years.

This ⬇️ is a long thread but it is an important one. We need to be prepared for the coming propaganda onslaught from Hobson's Pledge and Act.
On 9 Jan, a Facebook post by Hobsons Pledge generated 566 comments. The day after, it had increased to 1,400 (today, it's 1,000 more!). Studied all the comments on Thursday, & Friday. Additionally studied 2,100+ comments on 5 FB posts published over weekend also targeting Treaty Principles Bill.

Hey y’all. Time is running out to make a submission on the

Regulatory Standards Bill

Which if passed will removed Te Tiriti and the Bill of Rights from regulatory standards.

It comes from ACT, Nats have not said they won’t support it. It will basically put $ ahead of everything else.

To be fair they can't release the information.

Chris Bishop has lost the envelope it was written on.
Health NZ refuses to release information that would shed light on escalating Dunedin Hospital costs
The government has claimed that without changes, the Dunedin Hospital build will run millions of dollars over the $1.88 billion so far committed.

No other sort of ward is treated in the way this bill would require. There are no extra votes, just a choice of which ward to vote in, much like the Māori electorates for national elections.

ACTION TIME: 1/2 The FSU ran a campaign of support for Bethlehem College after they were criticised for anti-lgbtqi policies. Even after it was found that Bethlehem College had included the discrimination in their Statement of Beliefs without Ministry of Education approval.
Ugh. Schools debating in New Zealand is fucked if they’re taking money from an organisation that actively platforms and supports hate speech, platforms TERFs, and basically ran the anti cogovernance movement. Genuinely ashamed to be an alumni of this competition now.

I am loving this podcast! Kirsty you are born for this mahi, the audio is amazing and the story is riveting!
At the end of 2021, I got an email from a woman titled “investigating the possible murder of my mother”. The author was Sarah, who - it turned out - was born in a psychiatric hospital to a woman named Nellie. That’s where our podcast begins. Out today! 🥳

Under the Education and Training Act 2020 NZ universities are required to act as 'a critic and conscience of society'. A senior government minister publicly announcing plans for retribution against an academic because they don't like the opinions expressed by them is deeply troubling and sinister.

A brief guide to submitting to the Royal Commission. My advice is to simply tell your story. Be clear and concise. Use the tools they’ve provided - timelines etc to refresh your memory.
It’s quite different from SC subs, which I’ll go over again at a later date.
Just please, do it.
