Give a man a fish and someone with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about people getting free handouts. Teach a man to fish? Yeah, that person with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about that too.

If you are thinking about applying for either of the teaching jobs going at my school, this long weekend is a good time to get your CV and cover letter sorted so that your application arrives by 4 on Thursday.

So the Prime Ministers new attack on teachers is their 12 weeks of school holidays which we all know many teachers work through.

Regardless. NZ Parliament has 20+ weeks of recess each year including a far longer summer break than most professions including teaching!!!

#nzpol. We don't have the money, we gave you $12 a week tax break, and me an extra $340 a week. Ohh, yea, we also gave $2.9 billion to landlords (hey, that is me also, woohoo), and $300 million tax break for tobacco companies. But we just don't have the money for teachers and medical staff, sorry.

Certainly after the $2B spent on planes and helicopters I thought we didn’t have any money. Funny. It seems we have money for vanity projects and roads, but not to house people, or educate people, or provide decent healthcare

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

In twelve days, New Yorkers will begin to cast their ballots and face a stark choice.

A choice between democracy and oligarchy. Between a city you can afford or more of the same. Between the hope of a brighter future or a broken past.

We will choose the future.

Chorus makes a profit, the government owns 61% of it. There is no need to sell it off, and in a time where we are running an infrastructure deficit in large part due to repeated asset sales, maybe just maybe we shouldn't fucking do this.

Drs (and nurses, teachers too) only ever strike as an absolute last resort - and because they care about YOU and the service they can provide to you. Unsafe staffing impacts you. Exhausted Drs impacts you. Underpaid Drs means they LEAVE.

I stand with our Drs today, and always.

I’m actively house hunting in Napier (mostly) and some things that have struck me as particular to the Bay.
1. Even in a buyers’ market, most agents do the bare minimum
2. Most open homes are on a Sunday (which is full on)
3. Hawke’s Bay was an enthusiastic adopter of dux quest and ceiling tiles

Technically the school holidays haven’t even begun ‘cos it’s the weekend, but Friday night I went to bed with a scratchy throat, I got home to Auckland just before 2 yesterday and by the time bedtime came around again I was full blown crook. Earache, screaming sinuses, snot and headache. ☹️
