- Show movement/activity, not just a player standing in the middle of the screen
- Make sure what is happening is legible at a glance to someone new to your game
- Show variety
- Show your main HOOK: story, mechanic, etc

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.

And perhaps I'm just justifying my own "self-harming with bad scholarship" tendencies, but I have to say that reading critically is how you develop the ability to question, to not imbibe what's placed in front of you, to develop your own perspective without taking what's presented to you as truth.

ok but for real if you want to make a really good indie (or AA) games the number one way is "be financially comfortable via other means"
