Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

@adamlmahoney.bsky.social entered the media industry full-time in summer 2020, when newsrooms wanted frontline dispatches from the Floyd protests and nuanced Black perspectives, and wanted them now. It seemed like empathy itself had gone viral.

It didn't last.

Interesting thread on dislike alternatives, though the dislike button could be a stepping stone to handle a cultural issue bluesky has when someone wants to go f-u-why-didnt-you-X responses to complex topics and humble mistakes.
Bsky announced it will start testing "dislikes" letting users privately signal types of content they want to see less of. Negative feedback is an important way to give people agency in shaping their feed and online experience, but the word "dislike" may inadvertently....

"In practical terms, Texas is poised to no longer simply cooperate with federal immigration authorities, but function as an annex of them: a state-run extension of federal enforcement built into its everyday policing, transforming state sovereignty into an instrument of national policy."
NEW: ICE is planning to build a shadow deportation network in Texas. A proposal outlines a 24/7 transport operation run by armed contractors—turning Texas into the logistical backbone of an industrialized deportation machine.

Today is the LAST day to signup for a vote-by-mail application in Texas if you have a situation that warrants needing it - you have to print out the form, fill it out, optionally email a copy, and put it in the mail (post office by 5pm).

Local libraries typically only have registration forms.
Stop treating local elections like the junior varsity game. Your local vote doesn’t just count. It’s where the real power is, hiding in plain sight.
Your Local Ballot Actually Matters More Than the Presidential One
From school funding to property taxes, Texans’ most direct political power is the one they almost never use.
