The real alternative isn’t a kinder hierarchy, but a democratic culture that doesn't confuse achievement with worth. That means protecting dignity and voice for everyone, not just celebrating those who rise.

On the allegedly "innate" talent to get rich, in billionaires [own boot strapp -cfr ML King]

example from history: M. Rockfeller, '63
Michael C. Rockefeller got shipwrecked in 1963, washed up on an island, and was promptly eaten by cannibals.

Education is health.

So much strong evidence tells us that education is such a strong marker for health in the short and long term. Yet policy treats these two things separately.

Investing in wholesome education for children and young people is investing in future population health.

Public Health & #airborne disease

2B read
[M Ungrin]
How many times do we have to be right about what's going on before everyone recognizes the link with the huge conflicts of interest held by the public health and infection control leaders minimizing the impacts of airborne diseases like flu and COVID, and pretending nothing can be done about them?

The calls from America this weekend to "abolish the EU" are for one simple reason: the EU is the only thing that can keep European nation-states from becoming Russian or American vassals.
The US has declared rhetorical war on the EU
The calls from America this weekend to destroy the EU are revealing. They hate the union because it's the only thing that can keep European countries from being Russian or American vassals.

De-Googling
Alternative tools
Waiting for guides
👇
My org @fightforthefuture.org has been “de-googling” for the last year.

We’re totally off Google suite, Google docs, Drive, Calendar.

We’re using Signal and Element for chat, Nextcloud for docs, etc

Planning to publish a “how to” guide for other nonprofits and activist groups soonish.

Not just "fixing" little/local problems
but "surfacing" -> building a wider systemic view?
"the industry is choosing not to adress"

[A. Birhane]
this is why I'm not interested in working towards "fixes" but in surfacing problems the industry is choosing not to address
Our collective task is not to save tech but to save us, our world.

The resonant computing manifesto is too focused on means and not on ends. And that's basically the core issue. The belief in technological determinism.

More of translational res (?...) in
CV & patents for surveillance tools
37% ca on human body
31% visage details
far less on spaces

1) increased focus on humans as objects
2) allegedly obfuscated surveillance [but graphs showed more explicit words in titles?]

Why? Which theoretical foundations?
Following qualitative inspection of 100 CV papers & 100 patents, we highlight two salient themes that emerged:

1. humans are subsumed under the term ‘objects’
2. the field goes out of its way to obfuscate surveillance

2025 USA Trump, RFK jr & C.
"What we're witnessing is not reform. It's the hollowing out of an institution Americans rely on in every emergency. The actions will leave the country less prepared for the next foodborne illness cluster, maternal mortality crisis, or emerging pandemic."

CAIL (Critical AI Literacy)
much needed in Edu-Res-Health👈

"AI cannot be allowed to drive change, even positive change, in education and research" and Health?

🎯Critical thinking 🎯Slow Sci
🎯Conceptual [not "data/results"] clarity

by O. Guest & C.
It's a difficult needle to thread because a bully (AI industry) has no moral compass nor will stop bullying if we acquiesce. But that doesn't also mean we don't fight back. We try to make this clear from the abstract here too: "AI cannot be allowed to drive change."

A relevant question about the allegedly over-representation of the left in culturally acknowledged social media (bluesky. Mastodon?)
vs. the "right"
[J Scalzi]
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

CAIL = prerequisite knowledge for a critical perspective, such as to tell apart nonsense hype from true theoretical computer scientific claims. For example, the idea that human-like systems are a sensible or possible goal is the result of circular reasoning and anthropomorphism. olivia.science/ai
