Mary Shelly lost her virginity on her mom's grave, facilitated a lesbian wedding, and carried her dead husband’s heart around in a bag, so, yeah, I agree, let’s return to traditional values.

Anyway, shout out to @jenashleywright.bsky.social for writing "Glitz, Glam, and a Damn Good Time: How Mamie Fish, Queen of the Gilded Age, Partied Her Way to Power" and @ashlieatkinson.bsky.social for narrating. I flipped between reading (with eyes) and listening to the audiobook.

A 1.5 pages in and Mamie has invited a who's who of Newport to her home to meet a European Prince who turns out to be a monkey in a costume. Unhinged. I love her.

I love doing book reviews for the @nytimes.com, and I especially love it when I get to review something as good as Amanda Vaill’s new biography on the Schuyler sisters. It's a pleasure from start to finish. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/22/b...

@jenashleywright.bsky.social hit another one out of the park; it’s smart, dishy, FUN. If you’re in LA, get it at @vromansbookstore.bsky.social. If you are an audio person, maybe get @libro.fm, support your local indie bookstore. The reader is a PERFECT fit.

Soo I went into the bookstore to get a gift for someone & saw 2 📚 that caught my attention😊
They now are in my collection of “TBR”
Both look fascinating & I can’t wait to read them.
Two different experiences but so much the American experience.

If Republicans don't like people excitedly speculating regarding Trump's death, they can just ignore it, the way they do gun violence.

Thank you! 🎉 🥂
I’m having “The Gilded Age” withdrawals already. So I had to buy a book on Mamie Fish!

It really does all come down to "men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them."

This app needs a Mamie Fish. We need someone who throws absolutely unhinged parties, cooks people on the time line, gives poor people money and also can't read and doesn't think women should vote (I'll ignore the last two things based on the strength of the first thee)

I'm married to a former Colbert writer, which means I got to meet him occasionally at holiday parties. This also meant I was the *most unimportant* person at those parties. He remembered my name, joked with me and asked how my writing was going every single time. He's just a really, really nice man.

Whenever I see men post this I think about how when women are lonely, it's not pitied. It's used to chastise them for not being nicer to men. Meanwhile, when men are experiencing a "loneliness epidemic" they decide the answer is *also* that women should be nicer to men.

I suppose my greatest objection to using Chat GPT instead of writing yourself is that you cannot convince anyone to do anything unless you know how to use words well. 🧵

Have the guys downing protein powder and getting thigh implants ever considered "being a man in a bookstore wearing a sweater that looks soft."

Perfect end to @jenashleywright.bsky.social’s birthday dinner, waiting at the valet, a guy stepped out of his cybertruck wearing a pick-up-artist hat and *black and white striped pajama pants* and we started laughing uncontrollably as he walked by us and blurted out “oh my god it’s the hamburglar.”
