From a disability perspective, there is no policy that would do more to help everyone with every kind of disability than unconditional basic income. Disability programs should still exist on top of UBI, but their tests to pass will continue excluding 4 out of 5 people with disabilities.
Universal Basic Income would mean that disabled people would never have to fundraise to have their basic human rights met.

An opinion I feel should be universal at this point: All indoor public spaces (but especially schools, workplaces, and medical facilities) should be subject to air quality regulations and continuous monitoring and CO2 and particulate concentration numbers should be accessibly displayed.

Nice to see the NDP pushing for fresh air in kids’ schools that we know improves brain function. Kids deserve fresh air to think and learn in.

I did not sleep.
I was meant to go to sleep early so I could wake in the middle of the night to check results but I’m failing. I’m quite stressed 😅

As a foreigner, I have to watch what I say for the *entire* election period over here. I can state an opinion but not in a way that would overly influence a citizen or something.

Mostly it leaves me concerned I’m possibly doing something illegal by discussing politics with my partner

Frankie did not venture out from under the bed for 3 days when he first came to us. He’s now closely involved in all parts of our daily life. Bedtime reading is especially interesting.

Just got first school photos and 5 year old is wearing his ear defenders.

Could not be more proud of his self-advocacy. Me? I would have crumbled if a photographer asked me to remove them. Not this child.

I'm convinced that anytime an employee at a shoe store goes into the back room looking for your size they enter Narnia, romp around for a few hours forgetting about work, and then come back and just tell you no they don't have your size.

A reminder that the autism prevalence rate of 1 in 36 is a good thing, as it means we are getting better at identifying autistic kids who are already here, but who were getting overlooked. (Note that the CDC has yet to do a prevalence study of autism in adults.)
Autism Rates Are Now 1 in 36. Here's Why That Is a Good Thing.
The new 1 in 36 autism rate means the CDC is getting better at finding and diagnosing existing autism, not finding higher autism rates.

“Temporarily Able-Bodied”: The idea that everyone should care about disability because they’ll be disabled at some point.

As @ebthen.bsky.social says, it doesn’t work, & I also think it further stigmatizes disability. Like disability is the end of meaningful life, like we’re already dead.
Also I'm not a fan of TAB stuff. I call it Memento Disability and I think it backfires.

Folks also know they will likely someday be old, but they don't treat elders better. Generally what happens is they project their disgust and fear toward their future selves onto elders.

“I can see what type of person you are from the mask. Masks don’t make any difference by the way.” - Doctor to me just now.

I wish I had some choice about seeing this person. I do not. It’s her or nothing and my health stuff is complicated right now.

Support for Israel is a tenet of the religiously influenced right wing of American politics because the existence of Israel is a fundamental prerequisite for the strain of end-times prophecy that has been a guiding principle for the religiously influenced right wing of American politics.

Seriously, if you are in NZ and are considering trying The Lightening Process after reading The SpinOff, please don’t. I know CFS/ME & long covid are horrible, but it’s not a cure what it will do is drain your bank account and scar you psychologically.
