LA quietly stopped repaving all streets last July to avoid fulfilling its ADA obligations. The federal govt says when you repave a street, you have to update all the curb ramps. LA has tons of out of date curb ramps, so the rule makes repaving much more expensive. The city's solution: stop repaving!
LA has stopped repaving our streets
The reason why is probably illegal

Here is an article about widening a highway that doesn't get to the fact that RESEARCH UNIFORMLY SHOWS THAT HIGHWAY WIDENING DOESN'T WORK until paragraph 19. The argument in favor of highway widening appears in paragraphs 15, 16, and 17, from a trucking industry spokesman, without supporting data.

Now I'm curious, and there is actually a good study of the McCormick Center in a reputable journal (Van Doren et al, PNAS, 2021). Between 2000 and 2020 there were 13 days where mortality exceeded 50 birds. I don't know where they got the "1,000 birds in one day" figure from.

Just checked how many apartments are available in Princeton NJ for $2,087 right now and the answer is, of course, "zero". There are a few available just over the town line, in some of the local townships, but I tend to think that our town is big enough to include homes for people earning 98K a year.

I've heard similar things from people not just about renovations, but especially for businesses trying to open. I don't think the city has enough state capacity right now, but the council and various boards definitely need to ease up on the red tape. reddit.com/r/jerseycity...
