Flights and hotels for SF are something like 20% higher than a year ago. What's very odd is Chicago, where a UA/AA price war is driving down flights, but hotels are now very expensive, 1.5x what they were two years ago.

Can we all just acknowledge, universally and in every race, it'd probably be for the best if the condorcet candidate who best represented the median district voter won?

I mean, if Mamdani turns into Adams 2.0 and just does rezonings and is otherwise the vibes mayor, there are worse things.
We unironically need to give critical support to politicians willing to change their mind like Mayor Mandani acknowledging expansion of the CityFHEPS program would blow up the City's budget.

No shame in "flip-flopping" to the correct position!

@jimmy.path.pub We're doing a database migration. I've been optimizing code all day using Gemini. (Basically the only tools we have are that or some different copilot flavors, which work better, but the licensing is annoying bc we're cheap.) Hoo boy does Gemini gaslight you ALL THE TIME.

I have bad news for people about what the US still has the capacity to manufacture. It's not EVs!
The Venn diagram of folks who complain about the lack of manufacturing jobs in NYC and those celebrating a drone manufacturer being forced out of their site at the Brooklyn Navy Yard isn't exactly a circle, but it's pretty close.

What will be the impact of property taxes rising on rent? Ironically, not a lot short term from big landlords, you charge the market rate.

It will mean bigger increases from small landlords, and in time, further increase rent by stopping new projects the math no longer works for

I support having high-quality, well-paid public sector workers. What bothers me is not so much that pensions exist, is that a big component of them was a way to defer compensation in the past. I half want to file a class action lawsuit to seize a bunch of boats in Florida.

It's natural that there's a certain amount of conspiratorial cranks who attend public meetings. I suspect in time at least some will turn on the new admin.

What troubles me was that two of the most conspiratorial, personal attack-spewing speakers are on staff for Frank Gilmore.

The Jersey City Council asked Portside Towers tenants to try to be reasonable with their testimony tonight (very often they will go 1 hr+ and completely monopolize the time.)

They have been talking for over 50 minutes now, and looks like they will be going for a while more.

A five week free bus "pilot" in NYC during the World Cup would permanently raise fare evasion rate on buses (just like it did after COVID) which would then cynically be used as further justification for free buses.

Transit advocates should fight this defunding of the MTA!

Listen, I'm not going to complain that New York's governor has come out in favor of a bunch of projects that would help the whole region.

I just think they could have made it clear which of these are the priority, because we don't even have the funding for all of Gateway yet.
