I love my dog and grand strategy games, am morbidly fascinated with geopolitics, and I'm not great at writing a bio.

"Cynicism is a luxury good and this is not a luxury era."

That's gonna live in my head for a while.
Did I get a little choked up by the image of that solitary protester gal in West Virginia yesterday? Yes, I did. Do I feel weird about that? No, I do not. Cynicism is a luxury good and this is not a luxury era.

this piece has been in the works a while but honestly i could not have asked for a better foil than ezra klein's interview with ta-nehisi coates. klein longs for peacetime--but you don't get to decide when you're in a fight.

Democrats Must Embrace War Mindset
We have exited a long period of peace and entered into a struggle not unlike war, in which all the old certainties have gone malleable and the future of the republic is at stake.

It should be needless to say, but it is perhaps at this moment worth saying, that transgender individuals have the same right as anyone else to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Starting up classical guitar again was a good idea. It's not as painful to play as steel strings, it's much more able to do complicated music like video game music while still having old repertoire, and it's not super loud!

I consulted Clausewitz, and he says that sometimes you just need to give the people Glonzo.

Practicing classical guitar again has really helped my anxiety, it was flaring up pretty bad today.

This whole 'parade' is humiliating. Disorganized, no plan, nothing. Normally Dear Leader is at least okay at pageantry, but if you told me this whole thing was a piss take I'd believe you.

I did not edit this, this is the actual parade with the actual music being played.

Pulling Clausewitz quotes out of context is simply a continuation of politics by other memes
If you ever wonder why using Clausewitz quotes is so hazardous, it’s because he frequently poses ideas in opposition to one another to demonstrate tension—particularly between theory and practice. If you’re not careful, quoting him is just simplifying the thing he meant to complicate.

It’s considered “edgy” in progressive circles to say America has always been this way, and we’re now just seeing it more clearly. I think this kind of cynicism just lets Trump off the hook, and sells America and its history incredibly short.

For some reason when I have free time I can't motivate myself to do anything, not even to play video games I've been meaning to get to. All I can manage is numbly watching Youtube or Twitch. I don't know why that is, and it's scary.
