Everybody hates Dave Matthews but he's a pacifist quaker that renounced his South African citizenship rather than have to join the military in opposition to apartheid (being active against it), gives a lot to charities and causes, and has been pro-palestine anti-netanyahu for years and years, so

I normally agree with you, Sally. But as I argued 16 years ago, Rose was rightly banned from baseball but deserved HOF recognition for his on-field play. 4,256 hits, 17 All-Star games, 2,165 runs, 746 doubles. I simply cannot ignore the statistics.

I'll say on this, as I have in the past, that I think most plagiarism scandals are overblown, often things that cld simply be carelessness. But the President of Harvard lost her job at least in part over what was apparently a much less serious case. So wld be wrong to brush this off.

This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.
