The fundamental mistake of people like @chrislhayes.bsky.social is to ignore and fail to engage with the principled skepticism of LLMs by people like Ilya Sutskever, Rich Sutton, Yann LeCun, Demis Hassabis, Melanie Mitchell and myself that has been increasingly vindicated.

Some people cite Marcus as an AI critic or AI hater, and I would like those people to understand that he fights a very specific battle: that purely statistical LLMs are not the path to AGI.

That's very different from what many AI critics are doing: reject the idea that we should pursue AGI at all.
